Reddit is a website that has become extremely famous among internet users. There is probably a subreddit on Reddit that collects and discusses information related to whatever it is you’re into.
The creators of Reddit.com have updated the site with a new design that features more images and less text than before.
The primary concerns of this investigation are the user interface and user experience on a desktop platform. Seventy-five members of our UserInsights panel will be participating as testers.
The criteria used by the testers were:
- Legitimate Reddit participant (weekly usage at least)
- Has been a user for six months to ten years
- Regularly Uses Services that Need Authentication
- The most obvious change in structure is the introduction of a third column. Registration has been incorporated with a clear emphasis.

We can also observe that the information is shown in larger cards by default. It’s worth noting that Reddit has several options for customizing the feed format, but we always used the default settings.

This move seems to have firmly planted a stake in the sand announcing that Reddit is about the content, not the links that its users have curated.
The old Reddit placed the emphasis on links, whereas the new Reddit places the emphasis on content. This is an intriguing update that may affect the commenting feature valued by the community.
By making this adjustment, the gap in accessibility between searching for material and reading it with subsequent discussion has been reduced.
Before, you could only view the headlines of the links and determine whether or not to click on them based on that alone; now, you can access the content immediately.
The headline can now function more as a remark or caption with the image than as a straightforward description of it.
The photos were the first thing our users saw, followed by the title for further information. There was no way to flip the prior layout over in this way.
Users favored the option to simply see image posts without having to open each link.
When it came to subreddit customization, the old Reddit was superior.
It appears that Reddit has taken away the option to customize the look of your subreddits. At least among the most popular subreddits, our users looked at, the specialized stylesheets of older subreddits were no longer in use.
A screenshot of the /r/cars subreddit is provided below: The extended text in the sidebar is also missing. A new ‘rules’ card has been added to the right rail, though.
When this happens, it makes everything feel more cohesive for guests. Some subreddits have a brutalist or iconoclastic layout, with plenty of flashy colors and unusual links.
In fact, some of our customers have gone so far as to use the Reddit settings option to make it so that the default Reddit stylesheet is always used while viewing their subreddits.
However, the bulk of Redditors favored the older version of the website since it featured more engaging and informative unique stylesheets for each subreddit.

People seem to be unhappy with the new Reddit.
Is the dislike of the new Reddit just a case of people resisting change, or is there more to it? Naturally, Reddit is where you should look for the answer to this puzzle. Here is a selection of the many comments posted by Reddit users following the redesign.
There is far too much white space on the edges of a post with the new Reddit design, and that’s before we even get to the fact that it removes a subreddit’s potential to be visually distinct through the use of CSS.
- Removal of Subscriber-Specific Cascading Style Sheets. I get why they did it (because mods might take down the ad frames), but the execution is awful. When you can’t customize your site with a banner and sidebar, it all looks bland.
- The new Reddit is not very user-friendly on desktop computers. They made it more difficult to find one’s way around. Like comparing older versions of iTunes to the latest ones.
- If you have a large monitor, you’ll appreciate how compact Old Reddit is. For aesthetic reasons, I object to having a sidebar take up 30% of my screen real estate and another 20% for each post.
- The new Reddit takes longer to load than the previous one because it loads the page’s framework first and then attempts to load the content.
- It’s cumbersome, it shuffles around things that were working just fine before, it’s aesthetically offputting and reduces the scope for personalization, and worst of all, it’s unnecessary. It doesn’t actually improve anything; rather, it’s supposed to make the site appear more user-friendly so that it can be marketed as a social media platform.
- There’s no reason for a desktop version of the site to mimic the experience of a mobile app. It’s so dreadful that it’s laughable. Since the mobile site itself makes it very apparent that they would prefer you use the app, it’s safe to assume that they don’t want the site to be accessed from mobile devices.
- The New Reddit Is Fine With Me…
- I realize this is a controversial assertion to make. The new Reddit, however, is OK by me. However, I blame the fact that I typically access Reddit on my phone. Similarly, Reddit has addressed many of the early problems with the redesign, enhancing the functionality of several features.
