Streaming service Netflix landed a real hit with the show, which is based on a series of books by author Andrzej Sapkowski. And we seem to be aware of that because Netflix is currently building a large “The Witcher” franchise. There is already an anime film. A second is being planned, as is a “child and family-friendly” series.

And not to forget the prequel series “Blood Origin,” which will also take place in the “The Witcher” universe. While the franchise is getting bigger and bigger, at least season 3 of “The Witcher” should also be more diverse, as showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has now promised in an interview.

A “Queer Icon” Comes Into The Series

In an interview with Digital Spy, the show’s producer and showrunner spoke a little about fans’ expectations in season three of The Witcher. This will be based on the second book in the series, “The Time of Contempt,” and will “delve deeper into relationships” and also show “how different relationships can be,” says Hissrich. That will also show with the new character that we got to see at the very end of season 2: the magician Philippa Eilhart.

“She is best known for … I would say she is a queer icon for the readers of the books,” says Hissrich, describing the new character and promising that “you will not shy away from it.” To show her queerness in the series too. We’re looking forward to it. After all, “The Witcher” has been pretty straight up to now despite Jaskier.

The Witcher Season 3: Renewal And Release Date Updates

For the fans of the show, this might be a piece of big news. The Witcher was renewed for a third season even before the first season premiered. The second season of The Witcher was released on December 17 on Netflix. The fans of the show have already binge-watched the show and are now waiting to discover what’s next in the story of Geralt of Riva.

The first and second seasons of The Witcher premiered in December 2020 and 2021. The delay in Season 2 happened due to the halt caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. If the show continues to follow the same pattern, we can expect the new season to appear in December 2023.
