SAINT AUGUSTINE – Yolanda Saldivar, who killed Tejano star Selena in 1995, will be eligible for release in 2025.
It appears likely that Saldivar will be granted release from jail due to her excellent behavior. Parole eligibility is determined by a prisoner’s conviction and whether or not he or she has completed at least 50% of their sentence.
Saldivar was so dedicated to Selena that he founded a fan club for her. She became so close to the artist that she eventually ran both of her stores.
One of Saldivar’s employees said that, in addition to being obsessed with the singer (as seen by the numerous photos of the late singer that adorned her apartment walls), she was also possessive of Selena.
Even before her murder, Selena and her family had suspected Saldivar of stealing money from the stores.
Saldivar was convicted of Selena’s murder and is currently serving a life term in Texas’s Mountain View Prison. Saldivar allegedly filed for a new trial in 2019, saying prosecutors concealed information that would have benefited Selena, as reported by Radar Online. That question was turned down.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has certified that Saldivar, now 60 years old, will be eligible for parole in March 2025, exactly 30 years after the start of her sentence.
