Griselda, a new drama on Netflix, will show Sofia Vergara in a whole new light. Griselda Blanco, a Colombian entrepreneur turned drug boss known as “The Godmother” of Miami, Florida’s criminal underworld in the 1970s, is the real-life inspiration for the six-part limited series.

Griselda Netflix Release Date
On January 24, 2024, Griselda will be available to watch on Netflix. Andrés Baiz, who has worked with Eric Newman on Narcos, also acts as showrunner and directs each of the six hour-long episodes.
“Griselda leapt out at me as a fascinating character from the earliest days of my research for what became Narcos,” Newman tells Netflix. “Griselda presented the ideal opportunity and the biggest challenge in my lifelong quest to humanize complex individuals, even those who have been stigmatized as evil.”

In an interview with Netflix, director Andrés Baiz discussed the period setting and how it allowed them to be playful and imaginative with the world-building. He mentioned that Miami in the 1970s and 1980s provided that possibility. I drew inspiration for my own distinctive tone from the score, the set designs, the costumes, and the architecture; it’s a little weird, vivacious, seductive, and unorthodox.

Whenever Vergara sets her mind to something, I have no doubt that she will succeed at it; this is something that Eric Newman said about her performance as Griselda.
It was completely out of character for her to do, but the fact that she is a single mother like Griselda—who came to the United States from Colombia with nothing and built an empire—made her an ideal choice for the part. People have this preconceived notion of Sofia as a stunning and talented comedy actress, but that’s far from the truth.
