Since its 1979 inception by George Miller and Byron Kennedy, the Mad Max franchise has produced five installments, the most recent of which being Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Mel Gibson was the leading man in the first three features, while Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron were in the fourth.
In October 2020, Warner Bros. Pictures initially announced Furiosa. According to accounts, this was the largest production in Australia’s history, and filming took place all over the country in 2022.
Even though filming for Furiosa has already begun, information regarding the newest Mad Max film keeps trickling out. Consequently, if you want the lowdown on the highly anticipated film, you should keep reading.
Mad Max Furiosa Release Date
On May 24, 2024, theaters will welcome Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The sequel to Fury Road was delayed from its scheduled 2023 launch to September 2021 by Warner Bros.
Principal photography began in June 2022, when Chris Hemsworth, who was a guest star at the event, posted a photo of a Furiosa-branded clapperboard to X (then Twitter).
Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Furiosa, confirmed the completion of filming on Instagram on October 27, 2022. In her letter, she thanked the “crazies” who had “run amok” with her around the nation. “The hardest-working, most entertaining, and spectacularly gifted.”
For me, working on this with all of you has been a tremendous privilege and honor. I am grateful that you have helped me become more resilient than I had imagined. “Guzzoline, fire, and blood,” Taylor-Joy went on to say before calling it quits as “Furianya.”

Who’s In the Cast of ‘Furiosa’?
Cast members of Furiosa include:

- Chris Hemsworth as Warlord Dementus
- Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus
- Angus Sampson as The Organic Mechanic
- Daniel Webber as War Boy

Anya Taylor-Joy will play Furiosa in the prequel, replacing Charlize Theron, who played the character in Mad Max: Fury Road. The idea of using computer-generated de-aging on Charlize had been in his mind for quite some time, he admitted. As of right now, I don’t think we’re even close. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Theron expressed her sadness at being replaced by Taylor-Joy, calling it “a little heartbreaking,” but she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to have contributed to the creation of Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Another Hollywood A-lister in Furiosa’s cast is Chris Hemsworth, who plays Warlord Dementus, a major antagonist in the film. Working on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road was “by far the best experience of my career, and something I feel the most proud of,” the Australian actor said in a recent interview with GQ.
In addition to Angus Sampson (The Organic Mechanic) and Nathan Jones (Rictus Erectus), Tom Burke, Quaden Bayles, and Lachy Hulme are all confirmed to be part of the Furiosa cast in unspecified capacities.
In contrast, George Miller is helming Furiosa once again, this time based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. Production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, and makeup artist Lesley Vanderwalt are among the returning staff members from Mad Max: Fury Road.
