Career
Vanessa Angel is well known to fans for a few film and television roles. In 1996, she starred as the lead in the Farrelly Brothers’ bowling comedy Kingpin.
Angel would star with stars like Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, and Bill Murray. Her film career wouldn’t end after Kingpin, although it would be her most notable main performance.
She explains that Peter Farrelly saw her on Weird Science, which played a role in her getting the character, on a podcast.
Truthfully, it took a very long time… I assume Peter Farrelly saw me on Weird Science, so my agent got me the screenplay. After reading it, I was anxious to meet the cast because I was a big fan of Dumb and Dumber.
I auditioned for the role multiple times and even had a reading with Woody Harrelson. By the time I had gone through the motions four times, I was the underdog.
There were probably a few other actresses they had in mind at first, but as I got further involved, I think they began to see me as their Claudia.
Eventually, I had a sort of screen test with Woody, who then had to give his blessing before I was granted the role.

Since their 1996 wedding, Vanessa Angel and actor Rick Otto have been happily married and raising a daughter together.
She insists that the name Vanessa Angel is her legal given name and not a pseudonym. She also says she used to worry that people would assume she was a porn actress because of her surname.
