Season 3 of Outer Banks has been eagerly anticipated. More than a year has passed since the second season of the Netflix drama premiered, and viewers are eager to see what comes next for John B. (Chase Stokes) and his band of treasure-hunting comrades.
The Season 2 finale dropped a bombshell: Big John (Charles Halford), the father of John B. (Davey Jones), is alive, as we learned when our favorite Pogues escaped a gunfight on the Coastal Venture in a lifeboat. Will there be a father-son reunion in Outer Banks Season 3?
The series centers on a gang of teenage Pogues living in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, whom John B. calls “the lowest member of the food chain.”
As John B. and his companions set out to discover the circumstances surrounding his father’s disappearance, their innocent investigation quickly becomes a life-or-death treasure hunt in which they must contend with the opposing Kooks.
Outer Banks Season 3 Release Date
In spite of Netflix renewing the adolescent hit for a third season in December 2021, I previously stated that Season 3 would not be published until early 2023.
Filming for the new season began in February, meaning it won’t be finished until at least September. The first season took about seven months to shoot.

Outer Banks Season 3 Cast
Season three has begun, so that means we can count on seeing our regular cast members return for more. After Madelyn Cline and her on-screen (and now off-screen) boyfriend Chase Stokes broke up, rumors began to circulate that she might leave the show.
The actors playing Sarah Cameron and John B began dating for real in June of 2020. Cline went public about the breakup in a now-deleted Instagram story, putting an end to speculation about her possible comeback for Season 3.
This is what the 24-year-old wrote as the caption for her selfie: “Hey, people have been asking me if Season 3 of “Orange Is the New Black” will be my last. If they want me back next season, I’ll be there.
Every day, I am thankful for the opportunity to do what I love and for the support of the people who have observed what I do. The internet is not always a reliable source of information.
Thankfully, it appears like Sarah has a lot of development potential yet to come in the story.
The Knives out 2 Starlet Remarked in An Interview with Elle: To paraphrase, “I want her to be happy. Ultimately, I hope she finds her own identity and flourishes. That’s the best possible outcome for Sarah’s storyline, in my opinion.
After that, she said, “I want to see her and John B have to kind of hash out what just transpired.” I’m interested in how she becomes closer to her adopted siblings. Perhaps we could learn how she and Kie first became friends. Watch her apply to Pogue High School, perhaps. Take a look at her job application process, perhaps.
The second season was tremendously exciting and action-packed. And if we are so fortunate as to get a third season [which we definitely will!] I’m eager to learn more about [Sarah’s] personality and background.
As was noted up top, the key characters were showcased in Netflix’s confirmation article. We may assume that Chase Stokes (John B), Madison Bailey (Kiara), Jonathan Daviss (Pope), and Rudy Pankow (JJ) will all return alongside Cline.
Drew Starkey will return to the role of Rafe, and season 3’s newcomer Carlacia Grant, who played Cleo, has been promoted to a regular cast member.
Also returning are the roles played by Charles Esten (Ward), Austin North (Topper), and Cullen Moss (Sheriff Shoupe).
In her role as Carla Limbrey, Elizabeth Mitchell has committed to returning for the upcoming third season. Big John, John B.’s (very much alive) father, promised Limbrey at season’s end that he would help her find the legendary Shroud of Turin.
I get to hang out with Big John quite a bit, which is great because he’s great, Mitchell told Metacritic. She spends most of her time in his company. I wouldn’t say they’re “teaming up,” but they certainly spend a lot of time together in the beginning. Let’s just say that I have my doubts about Limbrey’s ability to work well with others.
Some fresh faces will also be in evidence, with Andy McQueen (Station Eleven), Fiona Palomo (Control Z), and Lou Ferrigno Jr. all joining the Pogues on their next tour (Stargirl).
McQueen is set to play the role of Carlos Singh, a shrewd but vicious Caribbean Don on the prowl for riches.
Sofia, the Pogue Palomo is supposed to play, secretly longs to be the Kook Rafe, and the two begin to develop a strong relationship. And Ferrigno will play Ryan, Singh’s “cool and composed but youthful and hungry top security officer and enforcer.”
Outer Banks Season 3 Plot
The producers of Outer Banks and Netflix have been keeping the plot of the third season under wraps, so we don’t know much about what to expect. Yet, we all know that the third season of Outer Banks will focus heavily on John B.’s connection with his father.
After the dramatic events of the first season, John B. and Sarah went to the Bahamas for season 2. In the meantime, the competition between the Pogues and the Kooks for the $400 million persisted. John B.’s father was located and confirmed to be alive by the end of season 2.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunners Josh Pate and Shannon Burke said, “John B’s connection with his dad is a key topic.”
They’re going to run into each other again, and then John B. will have to decide how to balance his memories of his deceased father with his newfound knowledge of his living one.
Meanwhile, Season 2 of “The Pogues” concluded with the band members marooned on an island with no supplies and no way to leave. Moreover, Big John, John B.’s father, has made contact with Carla Limbrey, the villain of Season 2.
The two appear to have formed an alliance in order to achieve their respective goals. Can rivals form a coalition? Now, all we can do is wait and watch what happens.
Additionally, the showrunners have assured us that they will be examining some long-awaited romantic relationships, notably within the Pogues family.
