After the Facebook data breach, we’re sure a lot of you are thinking about taking extra precautions to protect your privacy. Here at iGeeksBlog, we think it’s crucial that you take all precautions to protect your private information.
To get back on topic, did you know you can conceal your Facebook friend list on your iOS device, Android device, or desktop computer? The settings allow you to hide or show your list of friends to a reasonable degree.
Here is how you can protect the privacy of your friends and family members’ names if you don’t want just anyone to be able to look them up.
Facebook’s Guide to Hiding Your Friends List (desktop)
You must first log in to your Facebook account from a desktop computer before you can conceal your friends’ list. The next step is to access your account’s personal information settings. Look for the section labeled “How to discover and contact me.”
Choose the option labeled Who can see your friends list? You’ve found the appropriate environment. You can adjust the level of privacy for your friends’ list by clicking the arrow next to “Friends” and then selecting one of the options from the drop-down menu that appears.
If you’d rather keep the list under wraps, you can’t make it public, of course. Only I would be the quickest and easiest answer. In contrast, if you’re picky about who you add as a friend on Facebook, you can narrow your options to Friends or Specific friends.
After making your selection, you can exit this window by clicking the Close button. Background processes make the adjustment and store it.
Facebook’s Mobile App: Hiding Your Friends List
Facebook’s iOS and Android apps offer convenient access to the service’s privacy controls, so you may find it most convenient to make the necessary changes there.
Please be aware that the following guidelines are based on Facebook for Android and that the process may vary slightly on iOS. In contrast to the PC version, these preferences cannot be modified in the profile itself but must be changed in the Settings menu.
- The Facebook mobile app can be accessed by opening it on your mobile device.
- Select the arrow with three dots in the top right corner.
- Move the cursor to “Settings & Privacy” and tap it.
- Make a choice to “Settings.”
- Slide down to “Audience and visibility,” then tap “How people find and contact you.”
- To see the aforementioned options, click “Who may see your friends list?” and make your selection there.
Facebook post concealment
First, you can hide specific posts made by a friend before you unfollow or unfriend them. If the friend often shares something you find offensive or just don’t want to see on your timeline, this could be a good first step.
You may not like the potential future outcome, in which Facebook attempts to conceal comparable posts from your feed.
Use the ellipsis button () next to a post to hide it. Hiding a post requires selecting it from the drop-down menu and clicking the corresponding link. As a result, Facebook presents you with a menu of choices.
If you change your mind and decide you’d want to see the post, after all, you can click the Undo button to remove the conceal action. In order to avoid seeing any of this person’s posts for the next 30 days, you can snooze them by clicking the Snooze button.
To notify Facebook that the post is improper or offensive, select the Report post option.
