Teenage Kraken Plot
Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken has the following official plot synopsis: “Sweet, awkward 16-year-old Ruby Gillman is anxious to fit in at Oceanside High, but she generally just feels invisible.” Ruby is preventing herself from hanging out with the cool people at the beach since her overbearing supermom has forbidden Ruby from ever getting in the ocean.
She is also tutoring her skater-boy crush, who only appears to admire her for her fractals. Yet when Ruby defies her mother’s first commandment, she will learn that she is a direct descendent of the warrior Kraken queens and is set to succeed her commanding grandmother, the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas, to the throne.
The Kraken is sworn to guard the world’s oceans against the conceited, power-hungry mermaids who have been engaged in conflict with the Kraken for ages. That poses a serious and immediate dilemma because Chelsea, a popular and stunning new student at the school, also happens to be a mermaid.
