Succession is a very popular HBO show. The show’s creator Jesse Armstrong says that the upcoming fourth season will be the last one. In an article posted online Thursday by The New Yorker, Jesse Armstrong told the show’s many fans that the end was coming.
“I never thought that this would last forever. I’ve always been kind of aware of the end. I’ve been trying to figure out since Season 2: “Is it the next one, the one after that, or the one after that?” Armstrong told The New Yorker that he was going to stop doing the show.
“We could do two more seasons or two shorter ones. Or, we could keep going for a long time and change the show into something else. It could be a more random, fun show where some weeks are good and some are bad. Or, we could do something a little bit stronger and more full, and start off pretty strong. And that was always the thing I liked best.”
Armstrong added when asked if he could change his mind and keep doing the show, “This succession story we were telling is complete… “But I also have a strong feeling that there could be something else in an allied world, or allied characters, or some of the same characters.
The fourth season will begin with a birthday celebration for Logan, as did the first season. Armstrong told The New Yorker that there’s a chance he’ll stay in this universe beyond whatever conclusion he reaches, but that the plot for this final stretch of episodes stays tightly under wraps.
“Maybe there’s another portion of this globe we might revisit if we had the will,” he remarked. Perhaps there is anything else that could be done to capitalize on the positive aspects of the way we’ve worked on this. For those already bereaved, we can only offer hope.
The show, which has won an impressive thirteen Emmy Awards to date, explores themes of family, power, wealth, and corruption as the Roy siblings navigate their complicated relationships with each other and their father while also attempting to outmaneuver each other in the struggle for control of the company. The drama has been lauded for its smart writing, superb acting, and portrayal of the corrupting influence of riches and power.
Succession’s last season starts on March 26 on HBO and HBO Max. Check out the movie’s trailer down below:
