In the Official Selection, Pedro Almodovar’s “Strange Way of Life” will have its global debut. The festival has officially announced that Almodovar and his two principal actors, Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, will be in attendance at the premiere. After “The Human Voice” in 2020, this will be Almodovar’s second English-language feature film.
The El Deseo production “Strange Way of Life” was overseen by Agustin Almodovar. According to Almodovar’s official statement, the title “alludes to the famous fado by Amalia Rodrigues, whose lyrics suggest that there is no stranger existence than the one that is lived by turning your back on your own desires.”
Two men who had worked as hired gunmen together as young men rekindle their friendship 25 years later in the Western drama’s setting of Bitter Creek. In his role as jury president, Ruben Ostlund will bring his experience as the filmmaker of “The Square” and “Triangle of Sadness,” both of which won the Palme d’Or.
Strange Way of Life Release Date
The world premiere of the picture will take place in May of 2023 at the prestigious Cannes Picture Festival. The picture will debut in Spanish theaters on May 26th, 2023, courtesy of BTeam. The film will be released in the United Kingdom by Pathé, and in Italy and Latin America by Mubi. It will be released in the United States by Sony Pictures Classics.

Strange Way of Life Synopsis
Silva, after a hiatus of 25 years, travels to see his old pal Sheriff Jake by horseback. Jake and his old friend rejoice in their reunion, but the next day Jake explains that the point of his journey was not to reminisce about their past friendship.
Even though the trailer focuses on their investigation of a murder rather than their affection for one another, there is still plenty of tension between the leads. “Years ago you asked me what two men could do living together on a ranch,” Silva tells Jake. I’ll respond right away. Read on to find out more.
Alberto Iglesias, a frequent collaborator of Almodóvar’s, composed and produced the film, and it will have its world premiere at Cannes. The Human Voice, starring Tilda Swinton in 2020, was Almodóvar’s debut project in English; this new short film is his second.

Production began in the Tabernas Desert in Almera, Southern Spain, in August 2022. There’s an old Amália Rodrigues fado song called “A Strange Way of Life.” Production was handled by Pedro Almodóvar’s El Deseo and Saint Laurent, with the latter’s creative director, Anthony Vaccarello, serving as an associate producer and designing the film’s costumes.
Hawke announced on Instagram in September that filming had finished. Consistent help came from people like cinematographer José Luis Alcaine and composer Alberto Iglesias, and editor Teresa Font. It’s a queer Western, in the sense that there are two men, and they love each other,” the filmmaker was quoted as saying on the Dua Lipa podcast.
Since the Western is primarily a male genre, it deals with masculinity on a profound level. I can tell you that there are many classic Western characteristics in this movie. The gunslinger, the ranch, and the sheriff are all present, but the interaction between the two main characters is something I’ve never seen in a Western picture.
