After hearing that his nephew has filed domestic assault allegations against Ricky Martin, the singer’s lawyer has responded to the news that the singer may face 50 years in prison.

“It is unfortunate that the person who made this claim is suffering from severe mental illness. Of course, Ricky Martin has never been in a sexual or romantic connection with his nephew and never will be “a statement from Marty Singer, the Puerto Rican singer’s attorney, was provided to PEOPLE exclusively

He went on to say, “This notion is repulsive on top of being false. We all pray that this man receives the help he so desperately needs. In addition, we are eagerly awaiting the dismissal of this terrible case once a court has had the opportunity to examine the facts.”

Under Law 54, which is also known as the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act, a complaint was filed earlier this month but because of the bill’s sensitive nature officials were unable to divulge its petitioner. These charges were refuted by Martin.

Actor Ricky Martin, 50, has always maintained that the claims that led to a protective order against him were absolutely untrue and contrived, according to Martin’s attorneys. Our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated when the facts of this case emerge,” says the law firm representing him.

Puerto Rican police tried to issue the restraining order this month in an affluent neighborhood where the singer is from, according to the Associated Press.

He hasn’t been found yet, according to police spokesman Axel Valencia. A judge will ultimately decide whether or not Valencia may keep the restraining order in place, Valencia added to the Associated Press.

The 15-page complaint stated that Drucker assisted Martin with “recording contracts, touring and sponsorship arrangements, and other professional undertakings,” adding, “With Rebecca at his side, Martin made millions of dollars and consequently owes Rebecca hefty commissions.”
