I Phone Message Blocking, Filtering, and Reporting
You can block unwanted messages, sort messages from unknown senders, and report spam or junk messages in the Messages app.
Block Messages from A Specific Person or Number
- Tap the name or number at the top of the conversation in Messages.
- Tap “Info,” scroll down, and then tap “Block this Caller.”
Go to Settings > Messages > Blocked Contacts to see the list of blocked contacts and phone numbers and make changes to it.

Filter Messages from Unknown Senders
With iMessage, you can block messages from people you don’t know, so you won’t know when they send you something.
Go to Settings > Messages, scroll down to Message Filtering, and then turn on Filter Unknown Senders.
When this setting is turned on, when you go to Filters > Unknown Senders, you can only see messages from people who aren’t in your contacts.

Report Spam or Junk Messages
If you use iMessage, you can tell Apple about spam messages. Depending on your carrier and country or region, you can also report spam you get through SMS and MMS.
Touch and hold the spam message in the list of messages, then tap Report Junk. Or, if you’ve already opened the message, scroll to the bottom, tap Report Junk, then tap Delete and Report Junk.
The information about the sender and the message is sent to Apple, and the message is deleted from your device for good.
If you get spam or unwanted messages via SMS or MMS and don’t see a way to report them, contact your carrier. See the Apple Support article about how iPhones work with wireless carriers and what features they offer.
