how old was anakin in episode 1

When the First Star Wars Film Was Released, how Old Was Anakin?

Star Wars characters rarely make a big deal out of their birthdays. Estimating when characters were born in relation to a major cosmic event is the only reliable method of determining their ages.

Fans often speculate about how much older Padmé is than Anakin because of their first meeting.

The age gap between one of the most tragic forbidden couples in the Star Wars saga may be determined by using the years of their births in Star Wars’ unique measure of time, in BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin; “ABY” years take place after).

At what age did Anakin first meet Padmé in “The Phantom Menace?”

At what age did Anakin first meet Padmé in "The Phantom Menace?"

While the “Amidala” couple didn’t start dating until they were older, they actually met when they were quite young.

Padmé and her comrades land their broken Naboo starfighter on the outlying planet of Tatooine, where they set out to find assistance and meet a young slave who longs to fly to the stars.

Padmé Amidala entered Watto’s shop on Tatooine when Anakin Skywalker was 9 years old, but it would be another decade before the two began to show romantic interest in one another.

Anakin’s age in the other films.

When we see Anakin again in the films, he will be around 19 or 20 years old. Starting in Episode 2, “The Attack of the Clones,” he and Padme, then 24 or 25 years old, begin a love connection.

Anakin’s age is a point of confusion because he is said to be nine in The Phantom Menace and twenty in Attack of the Clones. Considering the events of Attack of the Clones took place ten years after The Phantom Menace, Anakin should be nineteen at the time.

The fact that Anakin turned ten shortly after the events of The Phantom Menace may account for this. Anakin becomes Darth Sidious’ apprentice and ultimately Darth Vader in Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith, at the age of twenty-two.

By this time, he has also fathered Luke and Leia Skywalker, but he doesn’t know it until much later. Anakin, now known as Darth Vader, survives long after the decline of the Order and the establishment of the Empire.

Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, where we next encounter Darth Vader, takes place immediately before the events of Rogue One. The movies have Darth Vader at the age of 41.

From the age of forty-four in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back to the age of forty-five in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. When he died in Return of the Jedi, Anakin Skywalker was only 45 years old.

Does It Seem Odd That Anakin And Padme Have Such A Huge Age Gap?

Does It Seem Odd That Anakin And Padme Have Such A Huge Age Gap?

The inferred relationship between Anakin and Padme in The Phantom Menace is one of the many reasons why people are so curious about Anakin’s age.

It was evident from the start that Padme was to be Anakin’s future love interest and the mother to his children, Luke, and Leia Skywalker.

Anakin’s first impression of Padme was that of an angel, and we see their relationship blossom throughout The Phantom Menace.

However, nothing obviously romantic was to happen until Attack of the Clones when both characters are much older – but this has not stopped many fans from commenting on how bizarre it is to think of young Anakin marrying the plainly much older Padme.

At the time, the age gap between the two seemed enormous, in no little part due to the greater age gap between the two actors.

Jake Lloyd, who played young Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace, was just eight years old at the time of filming, while Natalie Portman, who portrayed young Padmé Amidala, was sixteen.

Since one actor was younger than the role he was playing and the other was older than the one she was playing, the visual age disparity between the characters looked much wider than the canonical five years.

However, by the time of Attack of the Clones, both characters had matured enough for a love relationship to make sense. Hayden Christensen, who was nineteen at the time and almost the same age as Anakin, took over for Jake Lloyd.

However, Natalie Portman continued in the role of Padme and was likewise nineteen by the time Attack of the Clones was released, making her now much younger than the true age of her character.
