Career

Jadakiss’s career began when, at the age of 12, he competed in a freestyle rap contest in Florida and was discovered by Ruff Ryders Entertainment.

With Louch and Styles P, he established the rap group The Warlocks, and after meeting Mary J. Blige, she sent Puff Daddy a demo of the group.  The band formerly known as The Warlocks changed their name after signing with Bad Boy Entertainment so they would be easier to market.

It was in 1994 that the band made an appearance on the album “Fuck What You Think” by The Main Source, contributing their talents to the song “Set it Off.”

Later, the Lox collaborated with other Bad Boy recording artists to pen and perform songs like “Honey” by Mariah Carey, “It’s All About the Benjamins” by Puff Daddy, “Last Day” by The Notorious B.I.G., and “Can’t Get You Off My Mind” by Mary J. Blige.

The Lox scored their first Top 40 hit with a homage to Notorious B.I.G. titled “We’ll Always Love Big Poppa,” which appeared on the B-side of Puff Daddy’s “I’ll Be Missing You” record.

Platinum-certified debut “Money, Power & Respect” debuted at number three on the “Billboard” 200 charts and number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart upon its January 13, 1998 release from The Lox.

In 2000, they released “We Are the Streets,” a platinum album that came after their departure from Bad Boy Records and signing with Ruff Ryders Entertainment.

Featuring the hit singles “We Gonna Make It,” “Knock Yourself Out,” and “Put Ya Hands Up,” Jadakiss’s self-titled debut album was released in August of 2001 and was certified Gold.

Kiss of Death (2004), his follow-up, likewise achieved Gold status and topped the “Billboard” 200 charts, the “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” chart, and the “Top Rap Albums” chart. The line “Why did Bush pull down the towers?”

The hit single “Why” (featuring Anthony Hamilton) sparked debate and criticism after 9/11. Having joined Jay-Roc-A-Fella Z’s Records in 2007, Jadakiss went on to have his album “The Last Kiss” debut at No. 1 on both the Top Rap Albums and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts upon its first release in 2009.

The mixtape “Consignment” was released in 2012, and the album “Top 5 Dead or Alive” was released in 2015. He broke with the label in 2010. Top 5 Dead or Alive, like his first two albums, went straight to the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop and rap album charts.

First album since 2000, “Filthy America…Beautiful” It’s by The Lox came out in 2016, followed by “Friday on Elm Street” by Jadakiss and Fabolous the following year. Both “Living Off Xperience” by The Lox and “Ignatius,” Jadakiss’s sixth solo album, was released in 2020.
