Hellbound: Season 2? Has Netflix Renewed The Show?

Will Hellbound be back for a season 2 on Netflix? The new Korean series is causing a stir after the success of Squid Game. After the massive success of Squid Game, Netflix is counting on the success of the Hellbound series. New Korean series released on November 19, will there be a season 2?

Hellbound: Renewed For A Season 2?

In April 2020, Netflix had approved the production of a series based on a webtoon, an online comic. Written and drawn by Yeon Sang-ho, the latter then agreed to direct the sequel.

From August 2020 to January 2021, filming took place in South Korea for a release in November 2021. Hellbound had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival two months before its release on Netflix.

According to the official synopsis, the series says,

“As humans discover the possibility of anticipating their own death, angels are tasked with sending those who use this gift to hell.”

“For some, these angels are the envoys of God, while others wish to investigate their real origin.”

In just 24 hours, Hellbound could seduce Netflix subscribers by being in the Top 10 worldwide. Such a success that one can wonder if it will surpass Squid Game.

Hwang Dong-hyeok’s Korean series has thus become the most-watched series on the platform. She managed the feat of overtaking The Chronicle of the Bridgertons. Will Hellbound follow the same path? As the season just went live, subscribers are wondering if there will be a season 2.

In an interview, the showrunner Yeon Sang-ho responded: “For now, nothing has been confirmed and we have no plans for a season 2.”

Can Season 2 Be On Webtoon?

If he has not confirmed a second season, the sequel may be done in the webtoon, in the form of an online comic. In an interview with South Korean media, creator Yeon Sang-ho confirmed that he had no plans with Netflix for a second season of Hellbound.

But, he would think about a season 2 on his side, but in the form of a webtoon. “It’s not whether or not there will be a season 2. Choi Gyu Seok and I talked about continuing the Hellbound story in the form of a webtoon.”

An original sequel that he hopes to release “during the second half of next year.” It only remains for Netflix to convince the director to make a sequel.

While Hellbound is still awaiting a response, Netflix has just renewed Arcane for a season 2.
