Records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner show that the Star Search alum passed away on Tuesday, December 13, and according to a story by TMZ on Wednesday, December 14, the dancer’s wife, Allison Holker, had reported his strange behavior to the Los Angeles Police Department the day before when she discovered that Boss had left the house without his car.
Later, authorities responded to a report of gunfire at an L.A. hotel, where they discovered Boss’s body, apparently a suicide. The fame of this Alabama native was launched on So You Think You Can Dance, where he originally tried out for season 3.
His first attempt at the Top 20 eliminated him, but he came back for season 4 and finished in second place. Eventually, Boss became an integral part of the show as an All-Star dancer. The Step Up 3D actor became the resident DJ on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show in 2014.
After three years, he collaborated with Ellen DeGeneres on her show Ellen’s Game of Games. The boss wed the 34-year-old former contestant on Dancing With the Stars in 2013. They had a boy, Maddox, in 2016 and a daughter, Zaia, in 2019.
Holker has a daughter named Weslie from a previous relationship. The couple had just celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary a few days before the news of the performer’s death hit the media. We’ve made it to the ninth year of our marriage!

During challenging times, Boss emphasized the importance of returning to the relationship’s roots. ‘We have to figure out how to gel with it, you know,’ he told Us. Holker, meanwhile, remarked how fortunate she was to share such a close relationship with her partner.

Boss committed suicide, as reported by the coroner’s office in Los Angeles County.
In 2003, Boss shot to fame as a professional dancer when he made it to the semi-finals of the MTV dance competition The Wade Robson Project and then appeared on the talent show Star Search. When he appeared on season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance in 2008, he received even more recognition for his abilities.
Over the years, the hip-hop dancer has appeared on the show in many capacities, including as an all-star, a mentor, and, most recently, a judge (in the year 2022). The mentor for Season 12 in 2015, Boss contributed to Entertainment Weekly’s blog by writing weekly updates on the candidates.
In 2014, Boss appeared as a guest DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, but he soon became a regular performer. For eight seasons, beginning in 2010, Boss was a co-executive producer on the show and a mood-maker, guest host, and friend to regular host Ellen DeGeneres until the show’s final episode in 2022.
When Ellen DeGeneres’ NBC game show Ellen’s Game of Games aired from 2017 to 2021, Boss was the show’s announcer in addition to his duties on The Ellen Show.
When he wasn’t wowing viewers on television, Boss could be seen strutting his stuff in dance movies including Step Up 3D (2010), Step Up Revolution (2012), Step Up All In (2014), and Magic Mike XXL (2015). He also showed up in the 2016 film Ghostbusters and a Modern Family episode from last year.
