We’re excited to see Denis Villeneuve wrap up the tale in Dune: Part Two, which will take us back to Arrakis later this year. The sequel has already finished filming, so hopefully, everything is on schedule for its November release. With a brand-new behind-the-scenes image in December 2022, Timothée Chalamet announced the news.
In order to promote the release in November 2022, Zendaya gave us an incredible behind-the-scenes view of filming in November 2022, so he wasn’t the only cast member to give us a peek at the set. Given how well-received the first film was, this one doesn’t require much hype.
We’re all glad a sequel is coming to wrap up the plot because Part One of Frank Herbert’s novel was left on a huge cliffhanger and Denis Villeneuve made the decision to divide it into two parts. Here is everything you need to know about Dune: Part Two, though, before we go too far ahead of ourselves.
Dune Part 2 Release Date
Originally scheduled for publication on October 20, 2023, Dune Part Two was then postponed one month to November 17, 2023. The movie was then shifted two weeks earlier on November 3, 2023. While we hope the release date will not alter, anything can happen.
It’s likely that the sequel will only have a theatrical release in the US as opposed to a day-and-date streaming release, unlike the first film, which was made available on HBO Max the same day it opened in US theaters.
Dune Part 2 Plot: What Will Dune Part Two Be About?
The first storyline summary for the sequel was released when it was officially announced that there will be one: “This follow-up movie will continue the mythological odyssey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who slaughtered his family.”
In an effort to avert a terrible future that only he can see, he must decide between the fate of the known universe and the love of his life. Paul and Lady Jessica were accepted into the Fremen and were on their way to Stilgar’s house when the first movie, which covered about half of Herbert’s book, came to an end.
Given that House Atreides is almost destroyed, the sequel will pit them against the Empire, and we may expect to see more of Paul’s dreams of the future come to life as he leads a revolution against the Empire. Villeneuve admitted that he briefly considered ending the film later to match the book’s time shift but ultimately decided that the scene where Paul encounters the Fremen—his “first intuition”—would serve as the film’s epilogue was the best one.
Paul’s ability to foresee the future allowed the first film to contain intriguing hints about what will happen in the character’s future as he struggles with his ultimate destiny, which might be connected to Chani and the Fremen of Arrakis.
The sequel, which Villeneuve hinted would “get a little bit deeper into some of these aspects,” will include the aforementioned Feyd-Rautha. He said, “It’s like a game of chess. “The second section will feature the introduction of some new characters.” Even if you’ve already read the novel, Javier Bardem has hinted that the sequel won’t be a straightforward adaptation.
So be careful not to take your assumptions too seriously just yet. By claiming that the follow-up is “so amplified from the previous film” to Collider in January 2023, Bautista has been promoting the release of the sequel. He teased, “There’s simply so much happening, it’s so much more cutthroat and political and intense.
Dune Part 2 Cast
We received official confirmation of both the familiar faces and the new ones we’d be seeing in the sequel when filming was confirmed. With Zendaya’s Chani serving as Paul Atreides’ co-lead in Part Two, we knew she would have a bigger part to play after Paul finally met Chani at the conclusion of Part One.
Timothée Chalamet is back in the character of Paul Atreides. Dune cast members including, Chalamet, Zendaya, Brolin, Bardem, Dave Bautista, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård and Charlotte Rampling will reprise their roles.
Meanwhile, the sequel will also include a few new faces. The new cast members Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Austin Butler, and Léa Seydoux will also appear in the highly-anticipated sequel. Notably, Zendaya has more screen time in the sequel.
Dune 2 Trailer: Any Dune Part Two Footage Yet?
Dune: Part Two’s filming may be finished, but the sequel may still be a few months away before we see any of it. Although it’s probably just wishful thinking on our part, we’d love to see a surprise at the Super Bowl on February 12.
