The second season of Cruel Summer has been greenlit, and fans have known about it since the first season’s finale.
Freeform’s president Tara Duncan told TVLine in June 2021 that renewing the show was an “easy decision,” which makes sense given that, according to Deadline, Cruel Summer has become the network’s highest-rated series in history.
Quite respectable for a first appearance.
It’s true that Bert V. Royal, the man behind Cruel Summer, has stepped down from his position as showrunner, but that’s not the only thing that’s going to alter. There is a lot of uncertainty about what will happen in season two and where this show could go.
There’s always something entertaining about a good mystery, and we at Digital Spy are here to solve that one for you with this classic show from the ’90s.
In other words, hang up the phone with your mom and turn on your modem, because we’re about to dial into all the details you need to know about the upcoming second season of Cruel Summer.
Cruel Summer Season 2 Release Date
As of July 2022, there has been no word on when the second season of Cruel Summer would premiere.
Yes, that Jessica Biel, the show’s executive producer, has confirmed that additional episodes of Cruel Summer will premiere in 2022. The initial release timetable for Season 1 was for an April premiere, but this has already been pushed back.
Even though production didn’t begin until that month (more on that later), we’re now looking at a very optimistic end of the year.
When the show will return is anyone’s guess at this point. However, we believe they have been pushed to the fall/winter release date assuming Jessica is correct and the 2022 timeline is still in place. So, look for it around the months of October and November.
Listen in and we’ll fill you in on the latest developments.

Which actors do you delight to see return for Season 2 of Cruel Summer?
Stars of the upcoming season include newcomers Sadie Stanley (The Goldbergs), Lexi Underwood (Little Fires Everywhere), and Griffin Gluck (Locke & Key). Underwood will play Isabella, a “mysterious” new student who befriends Stanley’s character, Megan Landry, a computer programmer.
As the episode progresses, however, revelations regarding Isabella’s motivations for relocating to their Pacific Northwest community are revealed.
Kadee Strickland (Private Practice), Lisa Yamada (All American), Sean Blakemore (Greenleaf), and Paul Adelstein (The Good Wife) are among the other Season 2 cast members that have been confirmed (True Story).
Shondaland fans may be making the connection right now: Strickland played Dr. Charlotte King on Private Practice, who later became the stepmother of the character played by a younger Gluck.
Dr. Cooper Freedman, Gluck’s father on Private Practice, was played by Paul Adelstein. Who doesn’t enjoy seeing old friends again?
