A few days before The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon returns from its month-long break, star and executive producer James Spader confirmed the show has been picked up. The renewal will also bring the series past the 200-episode threshold early in the 2022-23 season.
Prior to the start of the current season, the programme has survived the departures of both Megan Boone, Spader’s former co-lead, and series creator and co-showrunner Jon Bokenkamp.
Red’s (Spader’s) whereabouts are still a mystery, and the members of the FBI task team have all but disbanded by the time we reach this season’s premiere of The Blacklist. The Blacklist’s remaining identities must be removed, so they band together once more.
For NBC, The Blacklist is a consistent performer. Nine episodes so far have averaged 5.05 million viewers with a week’s delayed viewing; NBC says streaming and digital platforms raise the audience to more over 9 million each episode, three times as many as its same-day viewership of 3.14 million. Netflix is also a big fan of the show’s back catalogue.
