Ben Affleck on Sobriety Reacts to Grammy Viewers Labeling Him “Drunk”: “Still a Huge Stigma”!
Ben Affleck said that people’s comments regarding his behavior at the Grammys made him wonder if it’s “smart to acknowledge addiction” in public because “there is still a tremendous stigma that is often very limiting.” Even though viral memes say otherwise, Ben Affleck “had a good time at the Grammys,” and he took note of the people who said he looked drunk at the show.
In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, the 50-year-old actor and director of Air talked about how people thought he was bored at the Grammy Awards in February because of the way he looked. He was there with his wife Jennifer Lopez.
“No. I enjoyed myself at the Grammys. I knew there would be good music because my wife was going. Could be fun.’ At motion picture award shows, there are speeches and things like webinars on how to mix sounds. But I thought it would be fun to do this, “said Affleck.
The star said this about the times that were caught on camera: “When I saw host Trevor Noah coming, I thought, “Oh, God.” I didn’t know they were rolling, but they were trying to frame us in this shot. I leaned into her and said, “As soon as they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor.”
She says, “You f—-ing better not leave.” That’s something that couples do.” The music awards show was his “wife’s work event,” and he said, “I’ve been pissed off at events in the past.” I’ve gone and also been bored. I’ve been drinking a lot at award shows. No one has ever told me I’m drunk.”
But at the recent Grammys, “they were all like, ‘He’s drunk,'” said Ben Affleck, who has talked about his sobriety in the past. “And I thought, “That’s cool.” That brings up a whole other question about whether or not it’s smart to talk about addiction. There are a lot of sympathies, but there’s still a huge stigma, which can be very limiting.
I do think it makes people less likely to try to make their lives better.”Affleck told THR that when he talked about getting sober, he became “one of the poster boys for action star alcoholism and recovery and all of that” without wanting to. “The best part is that people sometimes call me up and say, “Hey, can you help me out?”
And doing that makes me feel so good, “He gave. “The big trick of the 12-step is that they desire that you help other people because it helps you more than it does them. And I often tell people, “If I were you, I’d keep your addiction from coming out. No one needs you to be their example. You don’t have to tell f—-ing anyone.’
That’s why the front of the book has two words. Both parts of Alcoholics Anonymous are just as important as the other. It’s always a secret.” Lopez seemed to take note of her husband Ben Affleck’s behavior at the Grammys when she posted the teaser for his movie Air last month and made a noticeable change to it.
Before the trailer begins in her post, there is a still image of Affleck as Nike co-founder Philip Knight with the caption “my husband’s happy face.” This seems to be a reference to what people said about his face at the Grammys on the internet. “I can’t wait for AIR!” Lopez wrote what the caption said.
