We certainly hope Kevin Costner continues to play a significant role in Yellowstone for many years to come. We are constantly working on franchise extensions of Taylor Sheridan’s fantastic world. Whether or not Kevin Costner is departing Yellowstone after season 5, Matthew McConaughey is an incredible performer with whom we’d want to collaborate.
It can be difficult to picture the shows they appear in without the central characters. A few Yellowstone residents might fit this description, but Kevin Costner’s John Dutton might be the aptest. The American neo-Western drama created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson premiered in 2018 and introduced us to the tensions that arise at the intersection of a sizable cattle ranch, an Indian reserve, and real estate developers.
Season 5 of the show premiered on November 13, 2022, and Kevin’s continued presence in the show is a major plot point. In spite of this, Deadline claims to have “learned” that Taylor and Paramount Network are making plans to cancel Yellowstone and are instead developing a franchise extension with Matthew McConaughey in mind for the lead role.
Is Kevin Costner Leaving Yellowstone?
Even though Kevin Costner is no longer a part of Yellowstone, he did not leave his role as John Dutton before the fifth season. Despite rumors to the contrary from late last year, Kevin has confirmed that he will not be departing Yellowstone and will continue to appear on the Paramount show until a certain point, the exact timing of which only he knows.
Kevin set the record straight with USA Today (opens in new tab) by saying, “I was just going to do one season, but I’ve done this many.” I put my entire self into my work. Still, if I get the impression that something is wrong, I’ll leave.”
Kevin never said for sure that he would be returning as John in Yellowstone season 6, but he also never said that he wasn’t coming back, and he seems to have been carried along for the ride since he’s having so much fun. At this time, it appears that Kevin will continue to play his role on Yellowstone until the show is deemed “not suitable.”
He also seemed to express admiration for the way the writing “stands up” to the series that takes place in this realm. When asked about fears that the Yellowstone universe was growing too quickly, he remarked, “It all relies on the writing.” What you do must be credible. And that’s what I’m keeping a close eye on all the time.”

What Did Yellowstone’s Kevin Costner Win a Golden Globe For?
You may already know that Kevin Costner, for his performance as John Dutton in Yellowstone, received a Golden Globe this year, but if you haven’t heard, it was for Best Performance by an Actor. The Western drama’s first Golden Globes award came without Kevin Costner, who had to stay home because of the storm.
The prize was accepted on Kevin’s behalf by Regina Hall, who explained the situation to the audience by saying that flood warnings have been issued and that even Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s castle is in danger. On Twitter, he thanked the Golden Globes for the recognition and announced the award to the people who helped make Yellowstone a success.
The cast and crew of “Yellowstone,” who brought John Dutton’s universe to life, deserve a huge thank you from me on behalf of the Hollywood Foreign Press and the Golden Globes for this incredible honor. As he put it, “I share this recognition with my castmates, the producers, and our great crew.”

Is Yellowstone Back in 2023?
True, the second half of the fifth season of Yellowstone is scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2023. Though the long break that started with January’s Episode 8 is frustrating, there are still six more episodes left in Season 5. When asked about his possible departure, he told USA Today, “I was only going to do one season, but I’ve done this many.”

Absolutely everything I have goes into my work. But the second I sense that something is wrong, I’m leaving. There’s still no confirmation that the character will be leaving in season 6, although it’s possible it will happen.
