Rick Ness was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 5, 1981. He developed an early interest in music because he was raised in a musical family. He started his band, the.357 String Band, and learned to play several instruments, including the drums, guitar, and bass. He and his band travelled the nation, playing at various festivals and gatherings.
After meeting reality TV personality and fellow gold miner Parker Schnabel at a music event in 2011, Rick Ness developed an interest in gold mining. Parker persuaded Rick to become a rock truck driver and work with his crew on the second season of Gold Rush. After accepting the position, Rick moved to Alaska to work with Parker.
After becoming a valued and committed crew member for Parker, Rick Ness advanced to the position of foreman. Before choosing to strike out on his own and form his team in 2018, he collaborated with Parker for six seasons. Since then, he has mined in several locations, including Nevada, Canada, and Guyana.
