Squid Game Was Originally Called ‘Round Six’ At Netflix! Season 2 Announcement Updates!

Squid Game is one of Netflix’s most-watched series of the past few years. But the show’s Creator did not write it to be developed as a series but as a film.

The show in no time has become a massive success on Netflix. The credit for its success goes to the impeccable display of capitalism and the abysses of the unequal society. Many people in debt are recruited for a game to win millions and being killed off if they lose.

The show was released as a nine-episode series on Netflix. But when Hwang wrote the story, he always had the idea of developing it as a film. However, the film’s concept with such an immense display of the backbone of an imbalanced society made many investors step back from the dark plot.

Netflix Wanted Squid Game To Be Round Six

After a wait of more than ten years, the idea was eventually picked by Netflix. But the streaming giant, apart from Hwang’s vision of the film, wanted to develop it as a series instead. The decision came into existence after people at Netflix wanted ‘Squid Game’ to stand on a more detailed examination of its characters. Apart from the characterisation, the script’s pace motivated them to adapt it as a series instead.

So to make it a Netflix production, Hwang extended the script to a nine-episode long series. But there was one more thing that Netflix wanted to change in the South Korean hit. It was the name of the show. Netflix wanted it to be called ‘Round Six’, but Hwang later turned down the decision.

Squid Game: Season 2 Announcement Could Be Coming Soon!

Since the show has emerged as a worldwide phenomenon, it is sure that Netflix would be weighing on its second season. In a recent interview with The Guardian, the Creator of the show has revealed plans for Season 2.

The Creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, confirmed that talks are happening between him and the people at Netflix.

“Of course there is talk. That’s inevitable because it’s been such a success. I am considering it. I have a very high-level picture in my mind, but I’m not going to work on it straight away.”

While Season 2 seems highly likely, fans would have to wait a year or two to witness the return of Squid Game.
