Robbie Meiklem, a Girvan Football Club under-20 development player, just passed away at an Ayr Hospital, the club announced on social media.
The memorial to Robbie from Girvan FC read: “It is with great regret that we notify you of the passing of our Under 20s Development squad player Robbie Meiklem, who passed away earlier this week at Ayr Hospital. Robbie was also a former youth team player at Auchinleck Talbot.
Both the Girvan First Team and Development Team games this weekend have been canceled in honor of Robbie.
“Also all Development and First team matches across the West of Scotland Leagues this weekend will hold a one minute silence in memory of Robbie.”
This weekend, a number of other teams will observe minutes of quiet prior to their games.
Auchinleck Talbot, a former team, also posted a tribute and included a strong mental health message in it. They specifically mentioned the men’s mental health charity Release Ayrshire.
They said: “It’s with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of former youth player, Robbie Meiklem.”
“As a mark of respect, we will hold a minute’s silence before our games this weekend.”
“Never be afraid to reach out – Release.” “Rest in peace, Robbie.”
A widely shared article that many believe is related to Robbie’s suicide also stressed the significance of talking to children about mental health issues.
Surprisingly, the letter also revealed that Robbie’s organs had been donated, saving the lives of six additional UK citizens.
In addition to posting their remembrance, Glenafton Athletic stated: “Everyone at Glenafton Athletic Official would like to send their thoughts and condolences to Robbie’s family and friends at this time.”
“And remind everyone that it is okay to not be okay and please reach out to someone if needed.”
