Netflix Cancels Cowboy Bebop Season 2! Here’s The Real Reason!

Much to the chagrin of many fans, the live-action adaptation of “Cowboy Bebop” will not be entitled to a season 2 on Netflix. A true worldwide success, the animated series  Cowboy Bebop is  experiencing a live-action adaptation on Netflix. Appreciated by some, criticized by others, it was canceled by the streaming giant.

Cowboy Bebop Is A Phenomenon

Cowboy Bebop is a 26 episode animated series. Created by the Sunrise studio, and directed by Shin’ichiro Watanabe, it was broadcast for the first time in April 1998.

Japanese creation then met with enormous success in the country. Very quickly, it was exported across borders and thus became a real benchmark. But what exactly is she saying? The adventures of a group of bounty hunters who travel in space aboard their ship: the “Bebop”.

The crew consists of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, and Faye Valentine. The first is a martial arts gentleman, the second a former police officer and shipowner, and the third an amnesiac who lives only for money. What makes the success of this animated series is the mix between Japanese and American cultures. Very colorful, his style is fabulous.

In its conquest of the live-action market, Netflix then decided to adapt it. It thus saw the light of day on November 19, 2021. Created by Christopher Yost, it is quite well received on the American platform. To date, the 10 episodes have accumulated more than 74 million hours of viewing.

Netflix Ends The Cowboy Bebop Live-Action

If it does not break records, the adaptation of Cowboy Bebop in real shooting still makes a more than honorable launch. The only problem, it faces a strong drop in the audience just ten days after its release. We are talking about a 59% drop in viewings.

Opinions are mixed. Some love it when others hate it. And they don’t hesitate to let it be known! Debates fuse on social networks. Overall, those who have experienced the animated series find it difficult to hang on. The universe of this one would be badly transcribed in the live-action proposed by Netflix.

For others, it is a very beautiful discovery that deserves our attention. It has also allowed some to discover the original work. According to The Hollywood Reporter,  Netflix would then have made the decision to end the series. If the streaming service is planning a sequel, today it prefers not to take the risk.

However, Netflix does not intend to abandon the adaptations. The streaming giant is currently preparing a One Piece live-action. No, you’re not dreaming. Eiichiro Oda is also working on the project. The series should thus see the light of day in 2023.
