Ten years ago this month, Wynonna Judd and Cactus Moser tied the knot in her Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee, home. However, their friendship and love story goes back much further than that.
The 58-year-old country music queen has admitted she had loved her third husband for a long time, even before she wed her first two husbands. The bond between them has only deepened with the passage of time, and in turn, has only strengthened her.
In an interview given five months after the death of her mother and musical partner, Naomi Judd, Wynonna Judd tells how Moser’s love and encouragement had helped her get through the tough times.
“He’s the roughest and tender man I’ve ever been with that I trust,” the Judds singer told People. “There’s a strong bond between us. What a web of interdependence we form! When it comes to males, he is one of the few that I would trust with my life.
She then proceeded to describe specific instances in which Moser, 65, demonstrates his dedication. “He’ll grab both my hands and say, ‘Honey, you’ve done your best.’ “And then I start crying,” Judd confessed.
That’s exactly what he says, and he’s right. I’ve tried my hardest. When I’m trying too hard to sound witty, clever, or on the ball, he gently reminds me to take a step back and relax by asking, “Honey? Stop. Put some space between your words.
Even more so now that she has lost her mother, there are occasions when words to that effect are exactly what she needs to hear. She went on, “Sometimes I simply need to pause and take a breath.” I’m way too critical of myself.
Better, better, better; that’s what was drilled into me from a young age.” Judd, who is finishing up a final tour with her band The Judds as a homage to her mother, said that Moser has the ideal response to that as well.
“Sometimes he’ll tell you, “Honey, your best is good enough.”
