Since The first Alita: Battle Angel movie aired back in 2019, the sequel has received a ton of love from fans. But despite the passage of time, a sequel is still far from being approved. But that doesn’t imply that Robert Rodriguez, the director, hasn’t given it some thought.
He declared in December 2021: “Jim and I recently discussed it, and we’re still quite interested. I said, ‘Let me deliver and then let’s work out a pitch,'” Naturally, a lot of time has passed since then, and a sequel is still not in the works. In the interim, Disney also finished buying Fox, putting the rights to an Alita sequel in its hands.
The First Episode concludes with Alita realizing who she was and choosing who she will be, waging war on the oppressors of the planet and the evil ruler Nova. The first Alita: Battle Angel supporters, known as the Alita Army, declared their own crusade and started petitions, viral campaigns, and other things to try and get the sequel made, so the plot definitely feels incomplete.
Alita: Battle Angel 2 Release Date Speculation
There is no release date for Alita: Battle Angel 2 as of April 2023. In actuality, Alita 2 hasn’t even received approval. And getting that go-ahead is now considerably more difficult because Disney has acquired the rights to 20th Century Fox productions.
However, Alita: Battle Angel director Robert Rodriguez might have been able to win over the company thanks to his work on Star Wars movies like The Mandalorian for Disney Plus streaming. After The Book of Boba Fett, the director has expressed a desire to begin production on Alita 2.

Alita Battle Angel 2 Plot
Nova, the ultimate antagonist of the Alita universe, sits atop his throne overlooking Iron City and directs his minions to carry out his evil plans. The last time we saw our cyborg heroine, she was raising her blade above the clouds to confront Nova in Zalem.
There was no way the first Alita film could have finished on such a shocking note without setting up a sequel. Alita, not surprisingly, is fuming. Alita watched as the young man she had fallen in love with, Hugo, was brutally murdered by a serrated defense ring in the climactic scene of the first film.
Hugo was killed by Nova while trying to reach Zalem, the promised country. And this is after Alita was compelled to remove Hugo’s head and convert him into a cyborg as well. We all know how complicated relationships can be.
Alita may seek simple vengeance for Hugo’s death, or she may seek his shattered body. Because, after all, she has already fixed him once, and probably wants to fix him again. And with the help of her “adoptive parents,” Ido and Dr. Chiren, it would be very feasible to bring Hugo back to life as a robotic hybrid.
