Alec Baldwin Restarts ‘Rust’ Filming For The First Time After Halyna Hutchins’ Death!

In October 2021, Halyna Hutchins was shot and murdered when a pretend gun held by Alec Baldwin that turned out to have live ammunition detonated. Alec Baldwin has returned to the Rust movie set. The 65-year-old actor, who was tragically wounded while rehearsing a scene for the upcoming film in New Mexico back in October 2021, started filming the project again on Friday at the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Paradise Valley, Montana.

This is his first time working on the film since. As Harland Rust, Baldwin was photographed donning a gray shirt with blood-stained cuffs, gray leggings, a black vest with buttons, tall leather boots, and an orange bandana around his neck.

According to a witness who spoke to PEOPLE, the Baldwin family had supper with sushi the day before near the Montana site. “They were in a good mood,” the insider said. “They seem to be in good spirits.” On October 21, 2021, Halyna, 42, was shot and murdered after a prop gun held by Baldwin accidentally discharged live bullets.

Joel Souza, the director, was also hurt in the event, though Baldwin insists he did not fire the shot. In October 2022, Matthew Hutchins, the widower of Halyna, filed a wrongful death case against Baldwin and other Rust makers.

The production team also agreed to finish the film with Matthew now serving as executive producer, Grant Hill (The Thin Red Line), a producer nominated for an Academy Award, and cinematographer Bianca Cline (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), who would take over for Halyna.

After the temporary dismissal of the criminal accusations against him, Baldwin returned to the Rust film set. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, a Rust armorer, and the actor were both previously accused of two counts of involuntary manslaughter; prosecutors later dropped an allegation of a guns enhancement against each of them.

According to a statement from the prosecutor’s office, the charges against Gutierrez-Reed have not altered. Baldwin’s attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro said in a statement provided to PEOPLE on Thursday: “We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident.”

Later, Baldwin expressed his gratitude to his wife in an Instagram post while he processed the information. He wrote, “I owe everything I have to this woman,” and included the phrase, “And to you, Luke,” which was probably a reference to his lawyer.
