Reba McEntire recently disclosed that she is dating Rex Linn on her podcast, Living & Learning with Reba McEntire. In fact, she referred to him as a “very, very darling of a person” in the podcast’s last episode. Who is the man who won the Queen of Country’s heart, then?
The methodical approach ultimately won over Reba McEntire.
The 67-year-old country icon speaks candidly with People in the new issue, on sale this Friday, about her relationship with her boyfriend of nearly three years, actor Rex Linn, and how they spent a lot of time getting to know each other before they finally fell in love.
Rex and I had worked together on a film called The Gambler Returns in 1991, and that’s how we first met, McEntire adds. “Then, in January 2020, I shot an appearance on the TV show Young Sheldon, on which he also appears. He invited us to dinner when we finished up.
That’s when I finally gave up and said, “OK.” On our blind date, we both had the time of our lives laughing at his antics.” McEntire and Linn, 65, were forced to spend time apart in different states after the COVID-19 epidemic put the globe under lockdown shortly after they reunited.
“He was in L.A. and I was in Oklahoma where my mother had recently passed away,” she explains. “From March to June, we didn’t physically see each other, but we did have daily four- to five-hour Zoom and FaceTime conversations.
Without ever touching, we managed to form a close relationship and share an intimate experience.” After divorcing her 26-year spouse, music manager Narvel Blackstock, in 2015, Reba McEntire says she “truly wasn’t eager in finding love again,” but she’s glad Linn is in it.
She declares, “He is the love of my life.” To put it simply, “We hardly ever spend time apart.” It also helps that McEntire and Linn are presently filming in Albuquerque as a married couple for the upcoming season of the ABC drama Big Sky.
For us, playing husband and wife comes naturally,” McEntire explains. “To avoid wasting anyone’s time on set, Rex and I constantly practice our lines and other aspects of our performance. The work we do is professional. We’re well-prepared, on time, and all set to go.
In our industry, time is money, so we’re not holding anyone up.”

Linn joins the cast as Buck Barnes, the mysterious family business boss and husband of Sunny Barnes (McEntire).
McEntire had previously told Deadline that she and her co-star were “having fun” while filming the new dramatic season, which premiered on ABC on September 21. In the recent Lifetime movie, The Hammer, the real-life couple also appeared together.
The story of Kim Wanker, a traveling circuit judge, will be the basis for a movie debuting in 2023. Kim Wheeler, played by the country singer, is described as “an opinionated, firecracker lawyer who is appointed Judge of the 5th District of Nevada,” while Rex is described as “a mysterious cowboy with unknown reasons.”
McEntire was previously married to Narvel Blackstock, whom she divorced in 2015 after a 26-year marriage before she began dating Linn. The Oklahoma native had previously been married to Charlie Battles. For 11 years they were dating till she finally ended things with him in 1987.
