A shocking and tragic revelation claims that actor and comedian Paul Reubens passed away on July 30, 2023, at the age of 70. A statement he wrote and posted to Instagram following his death revealed that he had been secretly battling cancer for six years.
“I have always felt a huge amount of love and respect from my friends, fans, and supporters,” Paul wrote. “I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you.”
In the early 1980s, when Paul first aired Pee-wee Herman on HBO’s smash comedy series, he finally broke through. The character would go on to become a cultural icon after being featured in several TV movies and specials later in the decade.

On Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the age of 70, Reubens passed away. On Monday afternoon, the official Pee-wee Herman Facebook page released a statement confirming the actor’s passing, reading:
Paul Reubens, the American actor, comedian, writer, and producer whose character Pee-wee Herman brought joy to generations of viewers with his bright outlook on life, sense of humor, and emphasis on doing good deeds, passed away last night.
For many years, Paul battled cancer with the grit and humor that defined him. Our memories of him as a dear friend and a man of great character and generosity of spirit will last as long as his place in the comedy canon.
It has not yet been determined what kind of cancer Reuben had.
