Ben cherished musical listening. He enjoyed playing bass guitar and developed his skills at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp. He also likes to travel. Whether it was at the beach, in the wine country, or while four-wheeling in the mountains, Ben was always up for a good time.

Walt Garrison excelled for the Dallas Cowboys as a fullback for nine seasons, from 1966 to 1974. He helped them win Super Bowl VI in 1972, cementing his status as a symbol of their heyday. But things weren’t always simple.

Walt Garrison, who led the Big 8 in rushing for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, won a Super Bowl as a fullback with the Dallas Cowboys, and competed as a rodeo cowboy, died on October 11, 2023. He was 79.
Garrison passed away overnight, the NFL team reported in a story published on its website on Oct 12, 2023. The reason for death was not stated.
The 6-foot, 205-pound Garrison, who was selected in the fifth round of the draft out of Oklahoma State, played for nine seasons with Dallas before retiring in 1974 as the No. 3 rusher and No. 4 receiver in team history. He still ranks ninth with 3,491 rushing yards and fourth with 4.32 yards per carry in Dallas’ lifetime chart.
“I wasn’t starting,” Garrison was quoted as saying. “I was returning punts and kicks and covering on the kamikaze squad, that’s all I was doing. And hell, you could get hurt worse on them than you can rodeoing. I didn’t think much about it, but the Cowboys did.”

Soon after, Dallas head coach Tom Landry forbade working extra hours during the campaign. Garrison, however, kept playing during the offseason.
“Coach Landry pointed out that there was a clause in my contract that if I got hurt doing another sport, that my contract would be null and void,” Garrison said. “And I said, ‘OK.’ I didn’t think rodeo was that dangerous.”

Carl Ben Garrison’s Obituary
Carl Benton “Ben” Garrison, a resident of Frisco, Texas, died on April 6, 2023, at the age of 49.
Pam Phillips, his mother, died before him. He cherished his friends and family and went above and beyond for them. Please think about donating in Ben’s memory to the Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation, the Grant Halliburton Foundation, or another organization.
Services will be held at the Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 10 a.m. Then comes the burial.

He was honored for his unwavering spirit and dedication by being inducted into many Halls of Fame, including the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2000, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 1984, and later the Cowboy Walk of Fame in Stephenville, Texas, in 2007.
Notably, in 2002, he also established the Walt Garrison Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
