With the arrival of Spider-Man: No Way Home and the alleged presence of Andrew Garfield in the film, many have wondered why The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was canceled. Is there a reason why Garfield’s third Spider-Man sequel hasn’t been made and will never be released? The answer is yes, so let’s find out the reasons right away.
First of all, let’s start by telling that the first film of The Amazing Spider-Man was born from the ashes of a canceled project of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4, where Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst were supposed to return. This, however, turned into a reboot with Andrew Garfield, released in 2012, because the Studios wanted a younger actor to play Parker.
However, the story could not quite keep up with the comparison with the previous saga. The one starring Electro, the second film of 2014, definitively marked the end of the project due to the lack of success at the box office, which contributed to the project’s decline with Andrew Garfield.
Andrew Garfield was also due to return in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and the fourth film already scheduled. But this idea of the third sequel to Peter Parker Andrew Garfield was scrapped because Sony decided to give the character of Spider-Man in the hands of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney.
The Amazing Spider-Man 3: What Was The Plot Of The Cancelled Film?
What was The Amazing Spider-Man 3 supposed to be about? The mysterious project was initially titled ‘Resurrection.’ The plot was supposed to tell about Peter trying, using science, to bring back the loved ones he had lost. The first would have been Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone, who died in the previous film. The girl was supposed to return from the afterlife and start playing the role of Spider-Gwen, thanks to the experiment put in place by Peter.
Even Gwen’s father, Captain George Stacy, would have to return from the grave. Also, one of the film’s antagonists was to be Rhino, as the ending scene of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 also showed. According to the revelations of the director Marc Webb, in the film, there would be a new Goblin, played by Chris Cooper, and also a new character who would be called The Gentleman.
The plot, as it may seem, does not sound much intriguing. From our point of view, it was better that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was brought into the scene with a new storyline and some new characters.
