Like watching scary movies? Even though Scream 6 just came out, fans are already asking if there will be a Scream 7.
After the critical and commercial success of Scream 5 in 2022, Scream is back, and just like Scream 5, the first reviews of Scream 6 have been great. It not only continues the storylines of Sam and Tara, who are still alive, but also brings back Gale and Kirby, makes the blood and scares scarier, and gives fans all the twists and turns they want.
Will there be a seventh Scream movie? Here’s everything you need to know about the future of the famous franchise, including the cast, the release date, plot details, news, trailers, and whether Neve Campbell will return as Sidney after skipping Scream 6.
Scream 7: Release Date
We don’t know when Scream 7 will come out because it hasn’t been confirmed yet.
The next movie, Scream 6, came out in March 2023, 14 months after the last one. This was set in stone in February 2022. If the seventh movie gets the same quick green light, we might see Ghostface again next year.
But the main cast members now, especially Jenna Ortega, are in high demand and are working on other projects. That might slow down the making of the new movie, so we might have to wait a little longer.
Scream 7 Cast: Who Might Be in Scream 7?
If they do make a new Scream movie, we’re pretty sure that the new “core-four” will be back on the big screen. Melissa Barrera is playing Sam, Jenna Ortega is playing Tara, Mason Gooding is playing Chad, and Jasmin Savoy Brown is playing Mindy.
Kirby Reed and Gale Weathers will also be in Scream 6, so it’s likely that Courteney Cox and Hayden Panettiere will also be back. And Roger Jackson can’t be the voice of Ghostface in a Scream movie, can he?
Here is the cast list for Scream 7:
- Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter.
- Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter.
- Chad Meeks-Martin is played by Mason Gooding.
- Mindy Meeks-Martin is played by Jasmin Savoy Brown.
- Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox.
- Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed.
- As Ghostface, Roger Jackson.
All of Ghostface’s victims are likely to be the only ones who won’t be in Scream 7. If you are dead, you can’t be in a sequel, right? I mean, Billy Loomis’s ghost showed up in both Scream 5 and Scream 6, but we can’t expect all of Ghostface’s past ghosts to show up as well.
While we wait for more news about Scream, you can read our review of Scream 6 and see who is in the Scream cast. Or, here are all the movies coming out in 2023 that we’re excited to see.
Scream 7: Plot Speculation
At the moment, there is no plot summary for Scream 7. But the ending of Scream 6 gives us a pretty good idea of where the series can go next. Major Scream 6 spoilers are coming up.
At the end of the last slasher movie, we found out that Ghostface was actually more than one killer. Let’s just say (without giving anything away) that there are no hints of new movie bad guys and that all loose ends are tied off. But there is one thing that makes it very likely that there will be a sequel.
Sam is mesmerized by the mask her father, Billy Loomis, also known as the original Ghostface, wore. We already saw how she wore the costume to trick Bailey and save herself. But it’s clear that Sam liked being a murderer in a mask more than she should have.
Even though Sam left the mask behind at the end of Scream 6, we’re pretty sure that she still has the urge to kill. And how cool would it be for a new Scream movie to break the rules of the final girl slasher genre by making Sam the next bad guy instead?
We want it to happen, and a Sam Ghostface movie seems to be the only way forward right now unless a surprise curveball comes along with a whole new cast.
Will Matthew Lillard Appear in The Scream 7?
Matthew Lillard, who played Stu in the first Scream movie, could also come back to the franchise. There have been rumors for a long time that Stu survived Scream, and Scream 6 even talks about these rumors. Since Matthew and Neve Campbell are good friends, we think he would only go back to movies if Neve did too.
Matthew Lillard hasn’t talked about being in Scream 7 yet. But when asked if Stu will be in Scream 7, producer William Sherak told Variety, “Anything is possible.” We’ll let you know if anything changes.
Will Neve Campbell Appear in The Scream 7?
Neve Campbell said before Scream 6 was announced that she would love to come back for a sixth movie. “Of course, we’d all love to be a part of it,” she told ScreenRant. Neve played Sidney Prescott in all five of the first five Scream movies. However, she decided not to be in Scream 6 because of a pay dispute.
Neve said in a statement to Variety: “I won’t be making the next Scream movie, which is a shame. As a woman, I’ve had to work very hard to prove my worth in my career, especially with Scream. I didn’t think the offer I was given was worth what I had brought to the franchise. It was very hard to make the choice to move on.”
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, who directed Scream 6, told The Hollywood Reporter: “I don’t know if Neve will be in Scream 7 or not “We’d never stop trying to help her. We love both Sidney and Neve. So, we’d love to work with her on another movie, and we’re not going to give up.”
As of now, Neve hasn’t said if she’d be interested in coming back for Scream 7 or other movies in the franchise. If she does, we’ll let you know.
Expectations from Scream 7
Since the first Scream movie came out in 1996, five more have been made. It is one of the most popular horror movie series of all time. The most recent one, Scream 5, came out in January 2022 and has done well at the box office. But with the possibility of a seventh Scream movie coming up, some people are starting to wonder if it’s time for the series to end. The main worry is that the show might stop being creative at some point.
Another worry is that the series might start to rely too much on surprising people. Radio Silence, the new group of people who work on Scream, has been praised for their work on the show. But there is a worry that the constant turns and twists might start to feel forced and made up.
Even though there are worries, Scream 7 is likely to be made. The people who wrote Scream before have even hinted that the new era is its own trilogy. But it’s worth thinking about whether the series should go on after this point. In the end, how well the franchise does financially will decide whether or not it continues.
If Scream 7 does well at the box office, the franchise is likely to keep going. But from a creative point of view, it may be time to leave Ghostface and the world of Scream behind. It’s better to end the series on a high note than to keep going until it’s no longer interesting or exciting.
Is There Any Trailer for Scream 7?
We don’t have any Scream 7 footage to show you because it hasn’t even been confirmed, let alone started filming. Apologies for that.
This is the time frame you’re looking at because the first trailer for Scream 6 came out in December 2022, three months before the movie came out. Based on how long it took between the fifth and sixth movies, Scream 7 might come out in the spring of 2024. If that’s the case, we might get a teaser for it around the holidays.
