Priyanka Chopra Jonas is talking about the horrible things others have said to her.
At the start of the 2023 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival on Friday, the Citadel star, who is 40 years old, told Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke about a story from the day before that shook her confidence.
“Many people have told me things that are hard to hear. “At my job, there’s so much pressure that you can’t really show where you’re weak,” she said. “Yesterday, someone informed me I wasn’t a sample size… I was wounded and talked about it with my family. I sobbed to my husband, Nick Jonas, and my team, and I felt horrible that I’m not a sample size, which is a problem because most of us aren’t, and the sample size is size 2.
“There have been times when I may have said something that was misunderstood, and you see
people saying the meanest and nastiest things not only about me, but also about my child and other members of my family, and I think sometimes people forget that you are a person,” she said.
“And such pressures are hard to understand. I can’t describe how it feels to be sitting on your couch and feel like everyone is coming at you because they have forgotten that you are a person.
“I think what you need to do is surround yourself with people that love you and care about you, not about what you can do for me or what you can bring to the table. People who want you to be happy and better off,” she said. “There don’t have to be a lot of people in the room; I can count them on my hands.”
Chopra Jonas also talked to Salke about how she felt vulnerable about her body image and how, while working on the new series Citadel, she got equal pay for the first time.
“When I did Citadel, it was the first time in my 22-year career that I made the same amount as my male co-star,” she said.
The first two episodes of Citadel will be available on Prime Video on April 28. Each week until May 26, fresh episodes will be added.
