What About The Storyline of Norbit?
Childhood pals Norbit Albert Rice and Kate Thomas, living at an orphanage doubling as a Chinese restaurant called The Golden Wonton operated by Mr. Wong, are separated after Kate gets adopted. They also play wedded each other with ring pops.
Five years later, Norbit is saved from playground bullies by a tough, overweight girl Rasputia Latimore, who becomes his defender from the other bullies and best friend, but gradually turns into an arrogant and authoritarian lady. After a while, they get married and Rasputia begins insulting and dominating him.
Norbit is also belittled by Rasputia’s older brothers Big Black Jack, Blue, and Earl, working as a bookkeeper at their construction company. The Latimore brothers run a “security firm”, spreading dread in the whole village save Mr. Wong, who refuses to give them his business.
Norbit finds Rasputia cheating on him with her dancing instructor Buster Perkin, tosses away his wedding ring and expresses his rage during a puppet show for the orphans. He is astonished to meet Kate for the first time since childhood, and his admiration for her reignites as he discovers she is buying Mr. Wong’s orphanage, but is heartbroken to learn she is engaged to Deion Hughes.
Norbit meets Kate without Rasputia’s knowledge thanks to the aid of ex-pimp buddies Pope Sweet Jesus and Lord Have Mercy and other residents of the village. It is revealed that Deion is working with the Latimore brothers to transform their orphanage into a strip club.
In order to renew the Latimores’ liquor licence, the brothers trick Norbit into getting Kate to sign the paperwork. Kate meets Norbit and enlists his assistance in practising her wedding, where a passionate kiss between them causes Kate to second-guess her decision to marry Deion.
That Rasputia saw them kiss and threatened harm if they ever met again, Norbit comes home to find out.

What Happens to Norbit?
Upon arriving at the orphanage to confront Norbit about the arrangement, Kate discovers him being kept captive in the basement by Rasputia (the brains behind the orphanage scheme). As a result, Norbit is forced to push her away, against his better intentions, in order to keep Rasputia at bay.
Rasputia is happy, so she tells a tale about Norbit tricking Kate since she returned to town. In the aftermath of Kate’s departure, Norbit chooses to leave town forever. It turns out that Deion’s wealth is a result of several divorce settlements, which the private investigator he hired discovered.
Norbit is once again confined to the basement after the Latimores explain their scheme to him. Norbit manages to get to the wedding on time, informing Kate of Deion’s plots just in time.
Deion runs away from his ex-wives and children when Norbit’s evidence of their divorce agreements was destroyed when it fell into a pond.
Townspeople defend Norbit from the Latimores, who attack him for interfering with their goals. Mr. Wong harpoons Rasputia in the back as she makes her way through the mob and prepares to murder him. The Latimores are expelled from town, and Norbit and Kate resolve their differences.
When they were youngsters, they played under the same tree where they now bought the orphanage and were married there. After moving to Mexico, the Latimores hire Rasputia, who quickly becomes their most famous and lucrative dancer at “El Nipplopolis.”

Lines At The End-
Eddie Murphy’s portrayal of Rasputia in Norbit was criticised by black activists, who called it “simply the latest [feature] based around a black male acting up as an uneducated, overweight black lady.”
“This terrible stew of racist “comedy” is what MaryAnn Johanson, a well-known film reviewer, termed it.
When praising Murphy’s performances, Richard Brody of the New Yorker magazine said that he unleashed “a knot of wrath, cringing terror,” “furious power,” and “a sense of constant and unresolved outsiderness” with a sense of painful discovery in his review. In his top 30 of the 21st century’s best acting performances, he ranked it 17th out of 30.
According to a 2007 interview with the Asbury Park Press, The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson named Norbit as his favourite film.
