The Mushishi series’ most recent episode has been six years in the making. From October 23, 2005 to June 19, 2006, a total of 26 episodes aired in Japan on Japanese television during the mid-2000s first season.
Funimation licenced it. In May 2006, the first 20 episodes of the series were recapped in a special episode.
Fans had to wait another eight years until the sequel, Mushishi -Next Passage-, popularly known as Mushishi Zoku Shou, was released. In the second season, there are two 10-episode arcs. In 2014, both were released.
Studio Artland is responsible for the anime adaptations, which are being directed by Uzumaki director Hiroshi Nagahama.
Yuri Urushibara wrote and drew the original manga series. From 1999 through 2008, the manga was published. Afternoon Season Zoukan initially published it, but in December 2002, it was moved to Monthly Afternoon. In all, the manga contains ten volumes. Additional chapters, named Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage, were published in 2013. Several artists collaborated on a Mushishi Gaitanshuu memorial anthology, which was released in 2014.
In addition to the regular series, the series features a few limited edition releases. The first one, dubbed The Shadow That Devours the Sun, was published in early 2014 and was based on the manga’s two further chapters with the same title.
Mushishi: Path of Thorns, a one-hour special published in August 2014, aired between the first and second halves of Season 2. It was published in 2015, the following year, as the last special. Mushishi: Bell Droplets is the name of the special, which is based on the manga’s last arc.
Mushishi Season 3 Release Date
Mushishi, as a television series, is a huge hit with viewers. According to the show’s popularity on MyAnimeList, this is the case. Mushishi: Path of Thorns is the first Mushishi series title to fall outside of the top 100 Anime at the time of this writing.
Furthermore, even six years later, both segments of the second season are still in the top 50. As a result, fans have been wondering for more than six years whether Mushishi Season 3 would happen or not.
Mushishi Season 3 has yet to be announced by the show’s makers. Sadly, the manga’s material has already been adapted for both seasons and special editions. Despite the fact that part of the manga’s material has been left out, there aren’t enough chapters to warrant a season.
As a result, it’s probable that Artland decided not to adapt Mushishi Season 3 for television. For the time being, fans will have to sit tight and hope that the series’ creator decides to bring it back up.
Mushishi Season 3 Expected Story
The protagonist of Mushishi is referred to as “mushi.” To put it another way, they’re the simplest and most rudimentary living forms on the planet. Their existence has no purpose or objective, and they are magical beings. They don’t have to be nice or bad since they just exist. As a result, many people see mushi as parasites since they are so reliant on other organisms for their survival.
Mushi, on the other hand, are mostly unknown to the general public due to their inability to be seen by the naked eye. Some people can see mushi and have made it their life’s work to learn all they can about them. They’re known as “Mushishi” in Japanese.
It recounts the adventures of Ginko, a mushishi who travels the world solving problems related to Mushi.

Is There Enough Material for Mushishi Season 3?
The anime, as previously said, is based on the manga series of the same name. For over a decade, this manga was serialised, until it ended in 2008. Ten books have been released by the author as of today. The manga, on the other hand, has already been covered by both anime versions. As a result, the production business does not have adequate material for Mushishi Season 3 production. Even if the anime omitted a few chapters from the manga series, this isn’t enough to warrant a second season.
The Mushishi Zoku Shou manga has won several accolades, including best manga series, during the course of its career. When compared to the anime’s two previous episodes, which both made it to the top anime list several times.
Both the manga and the anime were huge hits, bringing in a tonne of cash for their respective creators. Even on MyAnimeList, the programme has an 8.69 rating, which is excellent when compared to other shows of the same genre.
The source material for the sequel, on the other hand, has already been completely depleted. Only to bring the narrative to a satisfying conclusion did it return eight years later.
Mushishi Season 3 is unlikely to be renewed since there is no source material and no concluding episode. So, don’t expect to see many more episodes of the anime in the near future.

In the preceding decade, Mushishi Zoku Shou was one of the most popular and well-received anime series. The manga, as well as the anime, was a huge hit and won several accolades.
In the last decade, the programme has been ranked among the top anime series of all time. Despite this, the production company has decided not to continue the series with a third episode.
For the last six years, anime fans have been anxiously awaiting word from the show’s creators about the show’s future. They’re not saying anything, however. The third season of the programme was neither renewed or cancelled.
As a result, some Mushishi Season 3 supporters remain optimistic, while others have given up hope.
