Mortal Kombat 2: Sequel Is Officially Coming!

In the summer of 2021, ” Mortal Kombat ” was a great success for the US streaming service, HBO Max. The film was also very popular around the globe, and fans are hoping for a sequel. This now seems to have been confirmed by producer Todd Garner.

He posts the short line on Twitter: “Well, back to work.” Of course, he does not specify which film it is about. His profile picture, which is the “Mortal Kombat” poster, clearly points to “Mortal Kombat 2”.

While this can’t be considered an official announcement, the fans of Mortal Kombat video games and movies are definitely crossing their fingers for the same, hoping that the battle of Earthrealm and Outworld will return to the big screen. The first film was made on a $55 million budget while it grossed over $80 Million in the box office, making it a massive hit. There are also rumors and speculations that the sequel will go directly to HBO Max. On HBO Max, the film was watched by more than 3.8 million households. The viewership records of the film surpass Godzilla VS Kong, which was watched by 3.6 million households. Still, it remains unrevealed whether Warner Bros will put more projects for the streaming service as they already have many upcoming projects lined up, including Peacemaker and Batgirl film.

Which Characters Will Return For The Sequel?

The plot of the second part will follow the character Cole Young (Lewis Tan). This did not appear in the video games and was created especially for the film. Japanese superstar Hiroyuki Sanada (” Shogun “) will return as Scorpion in “Mortal Kombat 2”.

The final scene of the first film showed us that Earthrealm’s champions were searching for more fighters for the upcoming battle. For the makers, there are a large number of characters that can be brought to the big screens from the gaming world. These include Kitana, Baraka, and Jade.

Previously in September, Variety reported that the film executives were looking forward to the plans of other installments in the franchise. It remains to be seen whether the film will get a theatrical release in 2022. But moviegoers will be able to watch enough other highlights. “Spider-Man: No Way Home” releases on 17th December 2021, and “Matrix 4” will make its way to the theatres soon too.
