On August 15, 1990, in Holland, Pennsylvania, Pugh entered the world as Justin David Pugh. It was at Rock High School South Council that he first tried out for the football team. His original career option was hockey, but he realized he was pretty excellent at football despite his short stature.

As an offensive tackle in his sophomore year of high school football, despite his lack of power, Justin earned the all-zone second team. In 2008, he was selected to the defensive second team by the Pennsylvania Football News. In 2008, while serving as captain, Pugh was recognized as the team’s most valuable player and defensive player of the year.
The league’s all-area and suburban first teams both named him to their first teams as a junior and as a senior. At his position on the defensive line, he was a lock for the All-Star team as a senior.
After finishing high school, he continued his football career at the University of Syracuse. Justin Pugh played in 34 games for his college between 2009 and 2012. During that period, the Big East Conference named him an all-star three times. As a sophomore, he made the second team, and as a junior and senior, he made the first team.
He had one more year of collegiate football eligibility when he joined the 2013 NFL Draft. The NFL did, however, allow him to participate in the Senior Bowl that year.

Justin Pugh NFL Career
When the New York Giants selected Justin Pugh with the nineteenth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, he immediately became the team’s fifth offensive tackle and seventh offensive lineman overall.

Pugh became Syracuse’s highest draft pick ever when he was taken 12th overall in the first round of the NFL Draft. And he was the Orange offensive tackle drafted higher than any other player since Bob Fleck in 1954.
He signed a four-year contract with the organization worth $8.34 million, including a $7.96 million guarantee and signing bonuses of $4.44 million. Tom Coughlin named him the starting proper tackle after he competed with David Diehl for the position during training camp. So, right off the bat, in his rookie campaign, he was expected to start.
In the second half of the season, he has made up for a less-than-stellar first half of his first year. During the 2014 season, Justin played in fourteen games. The quad injury caused the disappearance of two players. He would have to miss two games the following season due to a concussion. Pugh’s play that season earned him a spot in the top five among offensive guards.
He finished the 2015 season as Pro Football Focus’ ninth-best offensive lineman with an overall score of 86.7. When Justin Pugh signed his eight-year, $8.82 million rookie contract in 2016, the team picked up the option for the second year.
So, despite numerous injuries that greatly hindered his performance, he remained with the team throughout the entire 2016-2017 campaign. He spent five games in 2017 on the injured reserve list due to a back injury. Pugh re-signed with the Cardinals in March of 2018 on a five-year contract worth $45 million.
Justin Pugh Family
Baby Justin Pugh was born to Carolyn Gavaghan and David Pugh. His parents split up when he was five years old. Carolyn elaborated by saying that in the three years since Pugh’s death, Justin has had a hard time finding fulfillment in life.
In 2000, she married Justin’s stepfather, Frank Gavaghan, who, like her, had two boys, but none were anywhere near Justin’s age. Both of his older brothers played ice hockey, and his stepfather coached at the collegiate level. He developed an early passion for ice hockey and a desire to one day look like Wayne Gretzky.
Pugh’s biological father, David Pugh, recently died of cancer.
