After watching Hellbound’s first scene, you’ll be hooked, just like the characters who are dragged to hell by demonic creatures who kill anyone sentenced to death by visiting “angels” are.
However, the supernatural horror soon fades into the background without losing any of the initial dread. As a result, Yeon Sang-ho, the director behind Train to Busan and this film, shifts the focus to how these religious visits affect Korean society as a whole.
If you haven’t already, you’re probably wondering what Netflix’s next Korean hit will be. But don’t be concerned, we’ve got this. Here at Digital Spy, we’re going to Hell to find out everything you need to know about the upcoming Netflix series Hellbound season two.
Release Date Of Hellbound Season 2
Yeon Sang-ho has a lot going on, but he’s also a prolific writer and director, so the second season of Hellbound could air as early as winter 2022 if Netflix decides to renew the series. There is no rule that says it has to be live-action.
Sang-ho told Variety that working with Netflix was a “fantastic experience” for him. “They not only agreed with and supported my creative vision, but they also created an environment where I didn’t have to worry about distribution or how the series would be released.
“The story of Hellbound, which is based on the original webtoons, will be told first through the webtoon and, if we decide to turn it into a live-action series in the future, that will be something we discuss further.
“Because we had just released Hellbound season one, we didn’t have the opportunity to speak with Netflix about this issue. As a result, I believe this is a topic worth further discussion.
“A webtoon featuring Choi Kyu-Seok, a cartoonist and co-creator of 2002 short, has been running on Naver for the better part of the last two years. We discussed the possibility of making a live-action series while working on the Hellbound cartoon.
“When I was in the middle of filming Peninsula, the webtoons began to [stream] on the platform. Netflix and I had been discussing [a live-action series] before [the webtoon went live on the platform], but after [the webtoon went live], we started talking about doing that.”
It’s possible that Netflix will allow season two to be released as a webtoon before returning to a live-action series, which could delay the second season by another year.

Cast Of Hellbound Season 2
Following the unexpected conclusion, it appears that Kim Shin-rok will definitely reprise her role as Park Jeong-JA in season two, and she may even take on the role of the series’ main character going forward.
Season one’s breakout star Kim Hyun-Joo, who played Min Hye-jin, the attorney turned badass who propelled much of the main narrative forward in those first six episodes, will hopefully return as well.
There is a slim chance that Yoo Ah-in will reprise his role as Jeong Jin-soo in season two, albeit through flashbacks or even some supernatural means, despite the numerous deaths that were claimed in season one. Certainly unlikely, but the creepy cult leader played an important role in Hellbound’s arc in season one, and we’d love to see more of his life before he became the leader of the “New Truth Society.”
Plot Of Hellbound Season 2
To kick things off in season one of Hellbound, Soyhun questions Yuji about her baby’s tragic decree and why this happened to begin with. A meeting with Chairman Kim of the New Truth Society was held where it was decided that the mother and her baby should be isolated so that no one would learn that those who have never sinned can still be sent to hell.
As a result, Min Hye-jin comes to the rescue and kicks cultists in the hallway outside in the best possible way. When Min’s rescue plan is successful, he is able to smuggle the family into a safe house. Her trusting man is actually Lee Dongwook, the cult’s crazy YouTuber who first started preaching the cult’s gospel online.
To start, his contribution to the cause is to upload an anti-cult video; however, things quickly go south when he betrays Min and goes on a murderous rampage. Someone calling himself “Messiah,” am I correct?
In public, Lee catches up with the mother but the demons arrive just in time to kill the baby instead, thus covering up God’s “mistake”. As a last resort, the parents tie themselves around their children and light themselves on fire in order to keep them safe from the intruders.
The baby is held by the charred bodies of his parents, who died in the blaze. It’s hard to believe this person has made it through a decree. Possibly, yes. Even more shocking is the Messiah’s attempt to stab the baby, which isn’t enough. He screams, “The message is too complex for me to comprehend!”
Unfortunately, Lee is also killed by the demons. The question is whether or not this makes the child a new “Messiah.” The crowd intervenes to keep him safe from the cult’s encroaching influence. The child is then retrieved by Min, who makes her escape in a taxi.
The driver admits, “I don’t know much about God and I don’t even care.” “The world belongs to us, and I know that for sure. We need to take care of our business on our own. Isn’t that right, too?”
As Min and the rest of the audience reflect on those final words, the camera pans upwards. This is not the end, however. Suddenly, we’re shown the charred remains of Park Jeong-ja, where the room shakes, and then the body begins to reconstitute itself. This is the first season of Hellbound! If the so-called “sinner” was ever in Hell, it’s been miraculously returned to Earth.
What happens when the dead return in this manner is clearly going to be the focus of Hellbound season two. It’s unclear how this development will affect society’s perception of death and demonic visits. The “angels” of season one may not be angels at all, which means that the victims may not have been sent to Hell, but to a completely different location.
According to actor Yoo Ah-in, who spoke to the Korea Joongang Daily about the possibility, “There needs to be an entirely new world, one that is neither heaven nor hell for the second season. That made me wonder if there was some sort of four-dimensional ‘hell’ that people were afraid of, but no one knew about it. And I hope Jin-su, like Park Jung-ja, will be resurrected as well. I’m curious to see what these resurrected creatures will do to the world.”
Trailer Of Hellbound Season 2
As long as you keep your fingers crossed, we might just see new Hellbound season two footage by the middle of 2022. That is, of course, presuming that Netflix decides to renew the show for a second season.
End Lines
When the monsters arrive to take the baby, a large number of people are standing by and filming the event with their phones. So-Hyun and Young-Jae, unable to accept their son’s death, protect him from the burning lights with their own bodies, dying in his place. They are killed in the process. The baby survives, but Dong-Wook is assassinated shortly afterward.
