A “Dagashi” candy is a cheap American penny candy for people who don’t know what we’re talking about when we say old school. Getting back to the show, do you recall the first time you went inside a candy shop as a child?

Those delectable snacks and the realisation that the world may never run out of candy made you feel like a kid again. When you see ‘Dagashi Kashi,’ you’ll have the same emotion all over again.

A lengthy sweet commercial, or a flood of nostalgia transporting you back to your golden childhood days, these are all possible reactions to the anime. With only a few candies, the anime is capable of creating a wide range of amusing situations.

‘Dagashi Kashi’ is a series of short stories with no central narrative. For the most part, it’s situational humour focused on…well, Candy! I think the anime spends too much time presenting its main idea than it does on the actual narrative.

In order to demonstrate the breadth of its expertise regarding sweets, it uses creative lectures, emotive dialogue, and bizarre games to convey its message.

There are no dramatic buildups even when it comes to the relationships between characters in the anime. Because of this, don’t anticipate any complicated love triangles or corny slice-of-life moments in this story.

‘Dagashi Kashi’ is essentially a one-genre comedy, with most of the laughs relying heavily on the film’s central premise. As a result, many anime fans are referring to it as a four-hour advertisement.

It’s hard to fault Studio Feel’s work on any of its anime projects, but even here the quality of the cast, the setting, and the animation as a whole are commendable. It has an old-school rustic feel about it, but doesn’t go too far from the confectionery store’s central location.

The character design is what truly sets this animation apart. All of them have their own distinct characteristics and distinct facial expressions, which make the humour even more enjoyable. There is a little amount of fan service sprinkled throughout the film, but it is never gratuitous and is only used to establish satirical undertones.

Don’t be fooled by the “slice-of-life” genre description on MAL, ‘Dagashi Kashi’ is a pure comedy. As long as you don’t anticipate too much and just appreciate the series for its wit, you’ll have a nice time.

While viewing “Dagashi Kashi,” you may find yourself craving a piece of sugar while reminiscing about your youth. If you’re looking for a fun comedy with no real substance, this is the show for you. If you’re hoping for a more substantial plot, I’d suggest going elsewhere.

Dagashi Kashi Season 3 Release Date

‘Dagashi Kashi’ season 3 may premiere in 2021, according to our best estimation. As soon as we learn more, we’ll make changes to this area.

The first season begun on January 8th, 2016, and concluded on April 1st, 2016, ‘Dagashi Kashi’ season 1 debuted. Season 1 ran from January 12 to March 30, 2018, and was followed by season 2. As far as anime fans go, “Dagashi Kashi” has not been forgotten, but is it enough for the show’s producers to produce a new season? Until then, let’s see…

The anime ‘Dagashi Kashi’ doesn’t follow a chronological structure, which is understandable given the manga it is based on. The bright side of this is that if the anime decides to do the same thing again, it will have a lot of material to draw from.

It doesn’t really important whether the show follows the manga’s sequence since the show’s emphasis has always been on character development rather than the history and trivia of candy. A new season is simply a matter of time as the manga has about 60 chapters still to be translated.

Dagashi Kashi Storyline

For those who like to view their anime in English, Funimation and Amazon Prime provide the dubbed version of Dagashi Kashi, for those who prefer subtitles, Crunchyroll offers the subtitled version.

The Shikada Dagashi, a little candy store in the countryside, has been selling the Dagashi for over nine generations and is known for its quality.

After his father, Kokonotsu Shikada is next in line to take over the family company, but his heart is in manga and he refuses to do so, even though his father begged him to do so over and again.

When Kokonotsu’s father, Hotaru Shidare, comes seeking for him, there is a glimmer of hope. Due to his knowledge of the company’s potential need for his skills, Hotaru suggests that Kokonotsu’s father apply for a job at a well-known confectionery.

After first rejecting Hotaru’s offer, Kokonotsu’s father agrees to a deal: if he can somehow persuade his son to take over the firm, he would all join Hotaru’s multinational confections production company. Having accepted the challenge, Hotaru begins to teach Kokonotsu to the actual delight of traditional Japanese Candy.

The plot is continued in season two, which adds a few more fascinating people to spice things up a little. In terms of character growth, Season 2 is much superior than Season 1, which is one of the primary reasons we eagerly await the third season.

Dagashi Kashi Characters

The show’s primary female heroine, Hotaru Shidare, is a diehard Dagashi fan. Unlike Kokonotsu, whose father runs a world-renowned sweet manufacturing firm, she is eager to take over her father’s business. Her hair is purple, and she accessorises it with a black hairband adorned with black flowers and a peculiar deep blue eye colour.

Despite her best efforts, Hotaru cannot persuade Kokonotsu to take over her father’s company, so she relocates to the countryside. She is fascinated by traditional Japanese sweets, so in order to share her enthusiasm with Kokonotsu, she has him play silly games using sweets. As if she’s a candy database, she knows every sort of candy out there. In addition, she doesn’t seem to mind if we see her naked (cough, fan service).

Kokonotsu Shikada

‘Dagashi Kashi’ follows aspiring manga creator Kokonotsu “Coconut” Shikada, the series’ central character. His lifeless fish eyes and straight black hair with long fringes give the impression that he doesn’t care about anything.

He is a typical and unremarkable young man, with nothing to distinguish him from the rest of the cast. That’s one of the main reasons he aspires to fame. All of this is not to mention the fact that he has a strong desire to be renowned as a manga author in the future.

When his father begs him to take over the family candy store, he says no and tears up. For the sake of curiosity, his father inquires about his future plans, he is ashamed to reveal that he wants to become a mangakafather.

In the future, as Kokonotsu begins to give his father some business advise, his father discovers that Kokonotsu is a genius in the business world.

Final Words

Manga converted into an anime series by Feel, a company that has published many famous titles such as the second and third seasons of Oregairu, Kiss x Sis and TSUKI GA KIREI and the new ones such as Remake Our Life later shown on television.

A second season was later made available as a follow-up. This time around, Tezuka Productions was in charge of the series. The Quintessential Quintuplets, Dororo, and Girlfriend, Girlfriend are all produced by Tezuka Productions, which is well-known for its anime output.

Unfortunately, a third season of Dagashi Kashi is quite improbable. It’s because the manga series has come to an end. There is little purpose in developing a new season if the original has already ceased selling copies since most adaptations are meant to promote the original.

In a nutshell, there’s nothing left to market.

The studio will only have enough content for one more season due to a lack of available source material. In conclusion, the first and second seasons covered 125 out of the 186 chapters, leaving the studio with just around 60 chapters remaining to deal with going forward.

In light of all of this, it’s safe to assume Dagashi Kashi Season 3 will never be made available.
