Sebov gave Parks’s thumb a firm grip during their post-match handshake after Sebov defeated Parks in round two. Parks reacted to this as they left the court. Sebov twice shoved Parks during a heated confrontation that ended before authorities could defuse the situation.
Sebov’s forfeiture along with that of the other players on the court was ordered by Parks’ father. Michael Parks was spotted helping his daughter out of his box almost four years later. He watched as she advanced to the Madrid Open third round by defeating the former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka.
In an interview with Tennis Channel following her win, Alycia Parks disclosed that her father was participating in his first WTA 1000 tournament since the Las Vegas tragedy. According to the World No. 40, she would want to be alone herself.
Parks stated: “I’m just happy that I got through the match and this is kind of my first tournament with my dad back on the sidelines. Even though it has been kind of tough, I wouldn’t want to have anyone else rather than him on the sidelines to cheer me on.”
