Slim and trim! Valerie Bertinelli started the year 2023 by giving up alcohol. She was surprised when she lost weight by accident.

“Now, here’s a nice thing about Dry January. In a TikTok video from earlier this week, Bertinelli, 62, said, “These jeans were so tight a few months ago that I couldn’t button them.” “Now that they’re too big, I need to go down a size. I like that effect, too.”

After the former star of “One Day at a Time” shared the shocking weight loss, fans rushed to the comments section to talk about their own experiences giving up alcohol.

“I did Sober October and Dry January, and I ate a lot less sugar. Not much weight loss. So crazy! One social media user wrote, “But I feel healthier,” to which Bertinelli replied, “Ooh, sober October. I like it. I might do dry July, too.

Over the years, the woman from Delaware has been open about how she lost weight and often clapped back at trolls who make comments about her body. In July 2021, was honest about how hurtful unwelcome comments can be to a person’s sense of self.

“Someone decided to tell me I should lose weight. Because, you know, I don’t have a scale or clothes I try to wear every day, and I don’t have mirrors, so I don’t know what’s happened to me,” she joked at the time on Instagram. “So I needed that help to show me that I need to lose weight.”

The Daytime Emmy Award winner, who lost her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen when he died in October 2020, said that when people give their unwanted opinions, they are “not being helpful.”

“Because when I see someone who has gained weight, the first thing I think is, ‘That person must be going through something,'” she said. “But since I’ve never been good at that my whole life, I’m still dealing with it at age 61. Do you think I haven’t had enough, lady? Where’s the kindness? Not f–king helpful.”

Bertinelli said that grief has been a big reason why her weight has gone up and down and that she used to eat to “not feel the sadness or stress” in her life.

In an essay for Today in January 2020, she said, “Eating something away doesn’t make me feel better about myself. “‘Choose happily’ is one of my personal mottos. But sometimes it’s hard to make that choice.”

The Food Network star is now trying to live a healthier lifestyle. Last month, she said she was giving up alcohol for a month to “cut down on my sugar cravings” and “calm down the cortisol in my body.”
