Love and Monsters 2 Release Date Status Really Confirmed By Netflix For 2022?

Love and Monsters 2

In spite of the popularity of the previous film (which received an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects), Love and Monsters 2 has yet to be announced.

It was released on video-on-demand in the United States in October 2020, before the movie truly took off in the rest of the world in April 2021 when it appeared on Netflix.

O’Brien’s acting and, of course, the very fine dog were the two things that earned the film four stars from us! Joel (O’Brien) goes on a quest to locate his high school sweetheart, Aimee (Jessica Henwick), in a monster-infested country, where he discovers more about himself.

There has been “some conversation” regarding a sequel, according to filmmaker Michael Matthews, who told Decider in October 2020.

There are some fascinating thoughts that I have. However, we did concentrate on this as a standalone film. ‘How do we establish a franchise?’ is not the right strategy. “Let’s produce an awesome movie!” was the overriding sentiment. “Then we’ll wait to see what the reaction is,” he said.

Even if the reaction has been fantastic, we’ll have to wait to see whether Love and Monsters 2 will be confirmed before we can tell you all you need to know about the sequel.

How Does The Finale of Love And Monsters Build Up Love And Monsters 2?

Seven years before the events shown in the film, a meteor destined for Earth was diverted by governments all over the globe using rockets and then detonated. As a result, all of the planet’s cold-blooded creatures mutated into gigantic and violent monsters due to the rockets’ chemicals raining down.

Nowadays, individuals live in small, secretive communities, sometimes tucked somewhere below. Joel’s journey to the seaside to locate Aimee is the focus of the majority of the film. His voyage begins with him meeting a dog called Boy, whose original owner is said to have died, yet Boy drags her red clothing around everywhere.

Joel meets up with Michael Rooker’s character Clyde (from Guardians of the Galaxy) and Ariana Greenblatt’s character Minnow (also from Guardians of the Galaxy) as they make their way to the mountains in search of refuge from the monsters.

Clyde and Minnow, who have each lost a kid and a father, provide invaluable life lessons to Joel. Boy rushes away after a dangerous confrontation with Joel’s dog, which almost kills them both. Joel yells at the dog, and Boy flees. Aimee saves Joel’s life while he is in critical condition.

Since then, a lot of things have happened, including the loss of someone she had a close relationship with. Joel, in an unexpected move, agrees to this, even though he does admit that it was silly of him to go all the way there without first informing her.

However, when a new survivor called Cap (no, not that one) reveals he’s come to steal their supplies and flee on a boat drawn by a big crab monster controlled by an electric lead, it doesn’t take long for Joel to develop his suspicions and prove them right. A brawl breaks out, and Boy returns to the scene to lend a hand.

Crab follows Cap and his henchmen when Joel lets him free, prompting him to vanish into the ocean. Joel thinks the creature nice, and lets him go. While Joel returns to his colony, Aimee takes her group of elderly survivors to the mountains as well.

While Clyde and Minnow are stranded in the snow-covered mountains, they hear Joel’s radio call urging the various colonies to leave the underground and come to the mountains, where they can live as one. The film concludes with Clyde and Minnow speculating about Joel’s survival on the journey.

As a result, a sequel is quite likely. Both Joel and Aimee’s colonies have a long way to go. The monsters may move by water, thus there are many more colonies in the United States that require protection.

Love and Monsters 2 Release Date

We don’t currently know a release date for the sequel, but we can make an educated assumption based on the previous film’s release date.

The first film was filmed in March-May of 2019 with an initial release date of March 2020 scheduled. Those were pre-events, and the film’s VOD launch is scheduled for October 2020.

If the sequel is announced this year, we may expect it to be released in 2022 or early 2023, depending on the production schedule. It’s possible, but we’ll have to wait for confirmation first.

Love and Monsters 2 Characters

One of the most significant cameos would be that of Dylan O’Brien as Joel, who would be joined by Jessica Henwick as Aimee, and a canine character named Boy, who will also make an appearance.

We’re not interested in a sequel if Boy isn’t there.

Michael Rooker and Ariana Greenblatt should return as Clyde and Minnow, respectively, as should other members of Joel’s colony, including Senie Priti’s Karen, if the original film’s plot is any indication.

Final Words

Although Love and Monsters was released about a year ago, a sequel has yet to be announced. Despite the popularity of the original film, no word about a sequel has been released by the producers.

There are currently no clues that a sequel is in the works, so fans may be in for some bad news. It seems that just one film was in the works when the project was first conceived. We shouldn’t give up hope, though, just yet!

Of course, Dylan O’Brien and Jessica Henwick will return to their respective roles. Without their adorable dog love, there would be no narrative. Their dog, Boy, is also there! Aren’t you absolutely in love with him? He’s established a devoted following of his own.

Michael Rooker, Ariana Greenblatt, and others from Joel’s colony, such as Karen, should appear if the storey continues right after the events of the previous film.
