How to Put Widgets on A Windows 11 Desktop
In Windows 11, the widgets panel is the most common way to use widgets. Here’s how to get started using widgets in Windows 11:
- To open the widgets panel, press Window+W.
- Click the plus (+) sign at the top of the widgets panel.
- Choose the “+” sign next to the widgets you want to add. When you’re done, close the pop-up window. We’ll add Traffic and Entertainment to our example.
- The widgets you chose will show up in the panel for widgets. Choose the title of a widget to open the app or website it came from.
- To close the widgets panel, click outside of it or press the Windows key + W again.

How to Put Widgets on The Windows Desktop
You’ll need a third-party app if you want to put widgets right on your Windows desktop. Widget Launcher from the Microsoft Store will be our example. Open the app, choose a widget, and then click Launch Widget to add it to the desktop.

- To open the widgets panel, press Window+W or swipe right.
- Choose the three dots in the widget’s upper-right corner.
- Choose Customize widget from the list of options.
- Change anything you want, then choose Save or Cancel.
How to Get Rid of Windows 11 Widgets
Taking widgets off the panel in Windows 11 is just as easy as putting them there:
- To open the widgets panel, press Window+W.
- Choose the three dots in the widget’s upper-right corner.
- Choose to unpin the widget.

How to Add the Widgets Panel to The Taskbar in Windows 11
You can add a link to the widget panel to your Windows taskbar:
- Select Taskbar settings when you right-click the taskbar.
- To turn it on, click the Widgets switch.
- In the lower-left corner of the taskbar, you can find the shortcut to widgets. At first, you’ll see a generic icon. Soon, though, the weather widget will take its place. If you click on it, the widgets panel will open.
How to Change the News Feed in Windows 11
Along with widgets, the widget panel shows new stories from different places. You can’t get rid of news completely, but you can hide individual stories and change what shows up in your news feed.
- Open the widgets panel and click the silhouette icon in the top right corner, which is Settings.
- At the bottom of the pop-up window, click Manage Interests to open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the plus sign next to a category to give stories from that category more weight in your news feed. When you’re done, close Microsoft Edge.
- If you don’t like a news story, you can get rid of it by hovering over it and clicking the “Hide” icon (the eye with a slash) in the upper-right corner. Your comments help Microsoft make the stories it shows better.
