After a week at Disneyland, we had a fantastic time! It can be intimidating for first-time visitors (or even those who have been to Disneyland many times before) because the park is so small.
The success of your journey can be greatly enhanced if you know exactly what to expect and how to prepare for it. To make your trip to Disneyland even more memorable, I’m going to share all of my exclusive secrets with you today.
Here Are 10 Tried-And-True Disneyland Tips and Tricks to Help You Have the Best Experience Possible at The Greatest Place on The Planet.
- Make sure you go at the proper moment. Preparation is key to avoiding the swarms of people at the parks. As long as it isn’t too crowded, there will always be people in the parks. Avoid the weeks surrounding local school breaks and holidays.
Insanity reigns supreme during the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you can, avoid the crowds by going during the week rather than on the weekends. Disney Parks has provided a photo of this character.

- Even if it’s pouring outside, head to the park to keep dry. That is, assuming you don’t mind being wet (and you’ll get wet going on Splash Mountain, anyhow). Despite the fact that showers are unavoidable if you get the chance to visit a Disney Park during a downpour… DON’T WORRY. At this time of year, Main Street is almost always deserted, the sky is clear, and the rides are almost never crowded.
- Download a wait time app instead of wasting your time. You can use Disneyland’s own app (free on iOS and Android) or a popular one like Touring Plan (free on iOS and Android) or MouseWait (free on iOS and Android) to keep track of wait times for attractions (free on iOS).

- Take advantage of the extra hour of magic. You can go into the parks an hour early if you’re staying at a Disneyland hotel. Get up at the crack of dawn and you’ll get a lot out of this experience.
You don’t have to worry about getting on Space Mountain or Toy Story Mania during the remainder of the day, so you can enjoy the rest of your vacation.
On Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, if you purchase a three-day (or more) park ticket or the Southern California CityPASS, you can enter the park an hour early (if you’re not staying at a Disney resort).
- Invest in the MaxPass; the $10 is well spent. As a result of the MaxPass, you will be able to skip the long queues at attractions all across the park. When you arrive at the ride, all you have to do is scan the barcode on the app!
This is a great way to avoid long lines and save money, so be sure to take advantage of the PhotoPass downloads available with the MaxPass.
- Take a picture of your ride’s photo ID. For rides like Space Mountain and Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout, be sure to snap a photo of your Attraction ID number if you have the MaxPass (which you should).

- When it comes to packing, it’s important to think ahead. If you’re going to Disneyland, you’re going to have to pay a lot of money for basic essentials. Pack bandages, sunscreen, and a portable charger for your phone (the last one is a MUST).
- Make reservations for your favorite restaurants early! Booking a table in advance is a good idea if you’re planning to eat at a popular restaurant like Blue Bayou (the restaurant from Pirates of the Caribbean) or Carthay Circle (home of some seriously good handmade cocktails).
Getting bookings is as easy as making a phone call or going online up to 60 days in advance. Disney Parks has provided a photo of this character.
- Close the door. Bring a light daypack to the parks instead of a bulky one to save your back. The lockers can be used. Store snacks, essentials like a phone charger, and any other items you may need. In order to avoid being soaked for the rest of the day on rides like Splash Mountain or Grizzly River Run, bring an additional piece of clothes.
- Use your phone to order food. It’s still in the planning stages, but the Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering system will revolutionize everything when it begins (especially for those of us who get hangry).
