Full House and Fuller House star Dave Coulier recently spoke with radio hosts Jim Norton and Sam Roberts on their Sirius XM show. The actor and comedian reflected on his love past, including his time spent with Alanis Morissette, during the course of the conversation.
In retrospect, he realized that he had listened to her breakout single “You Oughta Know” not long after breaking up with her. When asked by Norton and Roberts of USA Today if he dated Alanis Morissette throughout the recording of Jagged Little Pill, the album that would go on to win five Grammys, including Album of the Year, Coulier responded that he did.

Unfortunately, the relationship ended before it could be resolved. Not long after that, while driving, Dave Coulier heard the song “You Oughta Know.” And I’m thinking, ‘Wow, this is a very fantastic hook,'” he exclaimed to the radio hosts. And suddenly the voice begins to speak to me.
Wow, this chick can really sing. And I didn’t even know it was a record until now. Coulier, however, quickly figured out that he was the song’s protagonist. The words are making him go “Ooh, oh no,” he remarked. I’m not going to be this person, ever.
And then I drove to a street, parked my car, and listened to the entire album, which I had just purchased at a record store. And there was a lot of recognizable material in there that she and I had talked about,” Coulier elaborated. The song “Your shake is like a fish” comes to mind.
I’d yell, “Hey, dead fish me!” and we’d shake hands in the dead fish manner… The first time I listened to it, I panicked and thought, “Oh, I fear I may have really harmed this woman.” The actor, who has voiced several characters over the years and whose most recent appearances were in Mighty Magiswords and Voltron: Legendary Defender, said that he and his ex-girlfriend got back together and are now friends.
For added effect, Coulier shared a personal story to highlight Morissette’s generosity: “When my sister Sharon was dying of cancer, Alanis was living in Toronto. My sis was visiting the Motor City. She flew to Detroit with her guitar and sang and played it for my sick sister while she sat in the hospital.

In terms of humanity, she fits that description perfectly. That is why I have never spoken ill of her. He finally admitted that she is beautiful. Thankfully, it appears that no hard feelings remain between Coulier and Morissette, and their fans can be grateful that their breakup led to such a fantastic and empathetic record.
