It’s rare for a new Christmas movie or series to be genuinely fantastic these days, what with the market being so saturated with formulaic narratives.
Dash & Lily, a teen sitcom that has no business being as good as it is, and great nostalgic fodder for folks who have a soft spot for New York City when the snow is falling and the lights are glittering, was an unexpected hit in Netflix’s 2020 Christmas lineup.
Adapted from Rachel Cohn and David Levithan’s popular YA novel Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares, the show follows Austin Abrams and Midori Francis‘ characters as they send each other dares around New York City during the holiday season.
The show won over many hearts with its festive and bright charm and its whimsical portrayal of the city’s spirit.
After a holiday miracle of a premiere in November 2020, it’s fair to question if another season is in the works, given the show’s bring ability and the fact that it’s based on a book series. Dash & Lily’s future is laid bare in the following paragraphs.
Dash & Lily Season 2 Release Date
Lily might disagree, but in our opinion, it’s fine to become a Scrooge: Dash & Lily won’t be back for a third season, the network has said. In October of 2021, Deadline published the devastating news.
When Netflix eventually made the news, it made sense because it had been nearly a year since the program premiered on the streaming site, and renewals normally happen within a few months of a show’s debut.
No one knows why Dash & Lily won’t be getting any more episodes. That’s not to say it wasn’t well-received, but it was also tremendously popular—dropping at the perfect moment to go with a steaming cup of hot chocolate.
Because the source material is part of a series, it’s possible that discussions about adapting the remaining volumes took place during the early stages of development. “I would love to go back and do the second book,” showrunner Joe Tracz told TVLine after Season 1, and he would even be glad to make a third.
As the epidemic continues to affect film and television production, Netflix may not be pursuing a Season 2 because it is still evaluating which projects to prioritize.
Dash & Lily Season 2 Storyline
The fans of Dash & Lily can at least be thankful that the program concluded properly in a bow like a giant Christmas present, even though we’d ask Santa for a second season.
Ultimately, the two returned to The Strand, the literary institution in New York City where they first met and fulfilled all of our Christmas desires by finally tying the knot in this romantic comedy. (It was New Year’s Eve, so we were kissing as the fireworks were going off.)
A continuation of the series following Rachel Cohn and David Levithan’s books would have made sense if their kiss was not the series’ end but rather a delightful beginning. A year after the events of the first novel and around the holidays would have been The Twelve Days Of Dash & Lily.
Even though Dash and Lily are still together, they are going to face more difficulties in the future. Lily’s grandfather’s health issues earlier in the year have left her unable to enjoy the holiday season as she normally would. Dash and his pals try to cheer her up so that she doesn’t miss out on her favorite part of the holiday season in New York City.
Because of this, it is likely that if the program had adapted that sequel, it would have continued to explore both characters’ romance and how their mental health affects one another.
In the first season finale, Sofia (Keana Marie) and Boomer (Dante Brown) started a romance, and we would’ve learned more about it.
Even while we won’t be able to see the entire city decked out in twinkling lights on TV, there’s nothing stopping you from doing the same at home where the rest of the series is available. Thank god The Strand will always have that mistletoe kiss!

Dash & Lily Season 2 Characters
In order for there to be a second season of Dash & Lily, Austin Abrams and Midori Francis, who portrayed the two protagonists, would have to reprise their roles.
Assuming that Dante Brown, who plays Boomer, Dash’s best buddy, and Keana Marie, Dash’s ex-girlfriend from season 1, return, it’s a safe bet that they will.
Priya’s actress, Agneeta Thacker, may also return.
The cast members Troy Iwata, who plays Lily’s older brother Langston, James Saito, who plays Lily’s grandfather Arthur, and Jodi Long, who plays Mrs. Basil E., who plays Lily’s great-aunt, could all return if Lily stays in New York rather than relocating to Fiji with her parents at the end of season 1.
It’s possible that Nick Jonas and his brothers will return to the show in the future, although it seems less likely than the others given that he is an executive producer on the show.

Final Lines
The show which premiered in November 2020, hasn’t been officially renewed, it’s unclear when Dash & Lily will return for a second season. However, despite the fact that Netflix’s first season of the show was a resounding success, there is still no word on the likelihood of a second season.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on a number of TV shows, it’s understandable that there isn’t a lot of information out there right now.
Netflix isn’t picking up new seasons as quickly as it used to, so we may not hear anything concrete for a while. However, Dash & Lily’s creator and executive producer, Joe Tracz, hasn’t kept quiet about the show’s future. Tracz expressed his eagerness to return to the story in an interview with Decider.
“In my head, I’m always thinking about [Season 2]. These are my favorite characters, “he stated. This is something I’ve thought about a lot, especially since there is a second book in the series.
As with season 1, a second season is anticipated to premiere around the holidays, thus a Christmas 2021 launch appears improbable unless the show begins production on season 2 very soon.
More time to film would be available to the production team if the show premiered in December 2022 instead of January 2023.
