Anthony Joseph Foyt Jr. is an American who used to race cars and is now retired. He has driven in many different types of motorsports. He drives the United States Automobile Club Champ cars, sprint cars, and midget cars in open-wheel races.
He drove in NASCAR and USAC with stock cars. He won a number of important sports car races. He has won more races than anyone else in USAC history, with 159 wins, and in American title racing, with 67 wins.
He is the only driver to have won the Indianapolis 500 (which he did four times, in 1961, 1964, 1967, and 1977), the Daytona 500, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1976 and 1977, Foyt won the International Race of Champions, an all-star racing series.
He won the 1964 Firecracker 400 and the 1972 Daytona 500 in the NASCAR stock car series. Foyt lived through three big crashes that left him seriously hurt, and he almost died in a fourth. Because of Foyt’s success, he has been inducted into many racing halls of fame.
Early Life
Anthony (Tony) Foyt Sr. (1918–1985) and Emma Evelyn Monk Foyt (1920–1988) Raised Foyt in Houston, Texas. His Father Was an Auto Mechanic Who Had and Drove Midget Race Cars as A Hobby. Foyt’s Father Made Him a Lawnmower-Powered Toy Car when He Was Five Years Old.
Tony Remembered that When He and His Wife Left Their 11-Year-Old Son A. J. at Home While They Went to A Race, They Came Back to Find that The Boy Had Caused a Lot of Damage to The House by Driving the Family’s Other Race Car in The Yard and Setting the Engine on Fire.

A.J. Foyt Was Born and Raised in Houston. He went to Pershing and Hamilton Middle Schools, Then Lamar, San Jacinto, and St. Thomas Catholic High Schools, but Dropped out Because He Wanted to Be a Mechanic, Not a Teacher.
Foyt Started Racing in 1953 in A Midget Car that Belonged to His Father. His First Race Was at Night Before the 500 in Anderson, Indiana. His First Win Came in 1957 at A 100-Lap Race in Kansas City. It Was Good Enough for Him to Move up From Midget Cars to Sprint Cars and Championship Cars and Trucks.
Foyt Won the Turkey Night Grand Prix in 1960 and 1961, Even Though He Started Last, and The Hut Hundred in 1961, Which only Helped His Reputation and Wealth. Foyt Won the Astro Grand Prix in Houston in 1970, and The Australian Speedcar Grand Prix at Liverpool International Speedway in Sydney in 1975 and 1976.
Foyt Later Raced in The Championship Auto, Sports Car, Stock Car, and Nascar Titles, Where He Won a Lot of Races and Prizes.
